A New Defender Approaches.

NOTE: This story is a tribute to my friend BrainiacAdam who on Deviantart did a story about the ghost of Freddie Mercury joining his hero team way back in 2016 and this one is also a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne who appears in the story as a ghost.

Sometimes when you think your week is going to go well something tragic and sad happens, and that includes the loss of someone you idolize like a famous person.  It seems that sometimes even when we think that someone you love will live forever,  the cruel creature of fate has a way of snatching them away.  Over the 2000s and 2010s many famous people were lost and taken up to the great beyond with several of the most notable  including Alan Rickman, Michael Jackson, Prince, David Bowie, Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, Robin Williams, W. Morgan Sheppard, Verne Troyer,  Glenn Shadix, just to name a few of them.  But then the 2020s death tallies started and well…it’s hard to find a month from 2020-2022 that didn’t end in someone’s death.

A musician passing away is nothing new, but when it happens to such an icon in music it can leave a long lasting impact,  it happened with Elvis,  it happened with Lemmy, it happened with Lennon, it happened with Michael, it happened with David Bowie and Prince and it even happened with Meat Loaf and Tina Turner.  And on the day of Wednesday July 23rd 2025 - an even more shocking passing happened to a beloved music icon - and one you wouldn’t think would end up passing -  Ozzy Osbourne.

To many a metal-head Ozzy was a pioneer in the genre of shock rock and heavy metal, with his gothic horror influences and overall spooky vibes in his performances, outfits and songs - if there was one musician you could associate with halloween besides Alice Cooper or MJ, it was him.  Of course no one thought that of all musicians, he wouldn’t be the one to die this year given his near indestructibility and everything (part of his mystique was how a man like him and also to almost the same extent Keith Richards could survive so much despite being through so much) and if anything it did seem like Ozzy would be the one guy the reaper would be afraid of, but the news of Ozzy’s death shocked the world.

Mel was in particular a huge fan of Ozzy as were all her friends and members of The Defenders, and the day after the news of his death the gang all had plans to do a special tribute day by playing his music, after morning tea they used a special combination on the computer keyboard to open up a portal to the virtual realm.  As they did so they jumped through the computer screen and into the virtual world,  as they entered the virtual world they all headed towards Vyond City.

They had a special home in Vyond City which was the home of the Defenders which was their hero group consisting of Mel, Eucalyptus, Soo, Ratrick (or Ratty as he was called), Bonzi, Werebelushi In Shades, Anglo, Mimi Minionette, John Landis, Russell Brand, Herbert the Cthulhu squishmallow,  Piff, Tangie, Aiyido the beholder (and his girlfriend Delilah Deathray), Dan the Were-Aykroyd, Aiyvan the monster, Wailleo, Corey, Oats and Vlad the vampire squishmallow. The home of The Defenders was a grand mansion and palace type area with portraits of all the members on the wall.

They were all going to have a special tribute day as Piff turned on the tv and they watched the ‘Back to the Beginning’ tour which featured Ozzy’s final stage performance and also watched highlights of his performances throughout the years and listened to his music and they had lunch together.  Afterwards something unusual began to happen in the room where Aiyido the beholder held his roleplaying sessions.

The group all decided to investigate and take a look around in the roleplaying room and they could hear music coming from near the display of miniatures, that music being the song ‘Mr Crowley’ which was being played, Anglo shone his light as the shape of a flying spectral creature that looked like it was straight out of Dungeons and Dragons before taking on the form of a human male, that male being the ghost of Ozzy Osbourne.  ‘Hey guys, look Ozzie is here.’ Piff exclaimed.

Piff asked Ozzy how he felt about now having just become a ghost,  Ozzy of course was already a supernatural creature before his death with him being a werewolf but now he had ghost powers and could use them to scare his enemies,  Mel smiled and hugged him. ‘Sorry you had to leave the land of the living, Ozzy.  I know you really liked it there. I have been mourning the loss of your family ever since the day you passed.’  ‘That is very kind of you Mel, if I get to visit Sharon and Jack and Kelly I will tell them that they share your pain and that you miss her just as much as they do, they’ll be very grateful.’

They all had lunch together and a jam session followed by an ingenious plan of Mel’s, they decide it would be really fun to scare the Alanastiums,  so Ozzy used his ghost powers to transport them to the mansion where the group of troublemakers lived.  

Mel and Corey and Oats and the others took on ghostly forms and haunted Wario in the kitchen by making all the food in the fridge come to life, and also Piff haunted a cooker which began to resurrect fish that had been cut up and for the resurrected fish to attack Boris Johnson and the Demon Headmaster,  meanwhile Alan was in the car heading out to go and cause more havoc when mist started fogging up the windows of the car as the radio started playing Paranoid by Black Sabbath.  ‘Hey, why is my radio playing this music?’

Ozzy’s ghost materialized in the passenger seat next to Alan and waved to him before teasing him for a bit.  ‘Say, do you want to see really scary?’ ‘Well okay then, I do want to see something really scary.’  ‘Are you sure? This is really really scary.’ ‘Of course I do.’ ‘Well turn the car around and park it for a bit.’

Alan did exactly that…’Alright show me, what is this really scary thing?’  ‘This is really really scary now.’  ‘I can handle it.’ Ozzy turned around for a bit before jumping out at Alan, revealing he had turned into a blue skinned demon like Dan Aykroyd in the Twilight Zone movie, and they all scared the Alanastiums by haunting their house, which was followed by everyone having lunch and snacks and afternoon tea together before playing games.

Ozzy visited his Black Sabbath bandmates as well and they all put on a concert for Mel and all her friends, this was followed by a hang-out session as they hung out for a bit,  and Ozzy was fully initiated into the Defenders as a new member, very much being to them what ‘Freddie Mercury’ was to the Adamantiuns, they all decided to stay for a little while.

An hour later Mel told everyone it was time to go home and they all reached the exit portal and jumped through it before jumping through another one which took them to the online realm selection area -  which was followed by jumping through another portal which took them all the way out of the computer screen and back at Nile Road.

They all arrived at Nile Road just in time for dinner as Piff made all sorts of delicious food for them, which was followed by Piff and Tangie going fishing together and catching all sorts of fish as Mel emailed Jill about their adventure, there was a karaoke session and a game session just before their big grand wind-down session.

The wind-down session featured all of Piff and Tangie’s favorite activities including fish themed arts and crafts, poetry, painting sea-shells, and playing their favorite game of ‘Guess the Bathbomb Scent’ followed by Corey putting on his bat pajamas and Oats putting on his pink night-gown.

They all brushed their teeth as a special version of Piff’s special closedown sequence played which featured an art style that resembled a heavy metal album cover, it depicted the anthropomorphic pufferfish dressed as a warlock fighting a demon as he flew through the sky and a low fi version of the Ozzy Osbourne song ‘Dreamer’ played in the background, the pufferfish landed on the ground and arrived at what appeared to be a grand fortress or castle before putting his staff and guitar area.

Which was followed by the pufferfish jumping through the air and into his bedroom, spinning around and morphing his clothes into pajamas before brushing his teeth and unleashing a mighty yawn as a goodnight message appeared on screen as the background morphed from daytime to nightime.  Piff jumped through the air and spun around, making fireworks which all spelled out…’For Ozzy’ as he laughed and cast a spell, turning the day time backgrounds and the sky in general into a night time one as his clothes morphed into pajamas, he brushed his teeth as he jumped into bed.

He kissed Tangie as he gave a very special goodnight speech: ‘When a beloved musician or celebrity in general dies it can be very hard to cope and that is why we always do special tribute episodes like today’s one which is dedicated to one of the most well known and influential musicians in the rock genre, we all have had a grand time celebrating the legacy of one Ozzy Osbourne - who has now transdescended upwards to the great beyond,   and we will always remember the legacy and music he has given us.  It has been a very personal and emotional story for us and we hope you enjoyed it too.  Goodnight from all of us, including yours truly.’

Anglo turned off the light and they all had sweet dreams about their adventures and future endeavors as the Defenders,  including all the fun they would no doubt have in these adventures with their newest members - even Piff had fun, as he sang to himself in his sleep, singing ‘Mama I’m Coming Home’ as their adventure had come to an end, but just because one adventure is over doesn’t mean they aren’t over yet.

This story was supposed to be done by yesterday but because of the picnic it unfortunately got delayed and well let’s just say I had a bad day that kind of killed the mood for me, but nonetheless this story just had to be done to commemorate Ozzy’s legacy because well…when I heard he passed I could not believe it,  I just was at a loss for words.  I was the same way when Michael Jackson died and when Michael passed I thought it was a joke at first because 2009 was very much the year of fake celebrity death rumors up until then and well I thought ‘oh Michael is going to be fine because he’s just being hospitalized, it’s not going to be anything too serious’ little did I know just how sad it was.  And while I do not exactly share the same opinion as Mel in the picnic story from yesterday about ‘feeling cursed’ due to celebrities I love passing away,  I still feel like it’s always the good ones that get taken away from us, no matter how old they are.
