The Saturday Mall Escapade

Corey and Oats loved going out with Mel and all the adventures they went on but especially to Glenfield Mall,  it didn’t matter if it was toy week or not there were always looking for new pals to adopt and add to their group of friends,  and every weekend in general was going to be an adventure themed one and this week was no exception.

On Wednesday the 16th of October Piff and Tangie went on a date at the Kabo cafe in Milford,  and after a great week they were about to have a good weekend adventure  -  on the morning of Saturday October 18th they all got up and got ready for their day, as it started with a lovely wake up and some toast for breakfast before they all helped Mel get ready.

After helping Mel get ready for her outing with a shower they all relaxed for a bit before they all waited,  after she finished her shower they all gathered together and an hour later they all hopped in the floating orange car with Mariah and drove off to Glenfield Mall.  They all arrived at Glenfield Mall and they were super happy together as they entered the mall, but the problem arose when they reached the travel escalators and tried to hop on-board, Mel attempted to step on it with her friends but her vertigo kicked in and she panicked.

It had been due to her enhanced vision she could see the mechanisms of the escalator and she panicked but luckily this problem was easily fixable as they left and all decided to walk across to the other side of the mall entrance and over to the lift,  the group of friends all hopped in the lift and the lift took them all the way to level 3.  

The first place they checked to try and look for halloween things was in Farmers, they didn’t have that many things because they were being overshadowed by the Christmas decor just moving itself in but they all walked around and investigated the toy section,  looking at all the toys and squishmallows, they saw a squishmallow advent calendar with micro squishmallows inside it but instead of them being Christmas themed they were halloween themed.

Corey and Oats spotted the four orange one eyed monsters or ‘Aivyans’ as Mel called them,  and continued looking around and even looked at the baby toys, they weren’t that many new ones to change from so they left and headed to the next spot which was EB Games, EB Games had moved its various sections but Mel often saw the Oogie Boogie and Sally squishmallows there and had eyed both of them and had them on a wishlist because the prices were a bit bigger than in other shops, she knew likely it would not happen any time soon, but she and the others did have fun looking at the funko pops.

She looked at all the pops and noticed a lot of new characters including Power Rangers,  in fact Piff noticed that most of the rangers were represented and he noticed the figure of the villain from the movie. ‘Hey, that villain’s name sounds a bit like the name of our monster friend.’ ‘You mean Ivan?’ ‘Yeah it does.’  ‘How did you know?’  ‘That villain is from the MMPR movie, his name is Ivan Ooze and he is played by Paul Freeman.’  ‘I know the name of that actor, isn’t he the same guy that plays Serena’s favorite Indiana Jones character?’  ‘Oh yes, Rene Beloq.’  ‘I bet this isn’t the first time you saw a Power Rangers character here.’  ‘Oh yes,  I saw Rita Repulsa here too. And I always think of my online friend Adam Hughes aka Brainiacadam when I see her,  because Rita is one of his favorites.’

Mel explained that she and Adam were (and continue to be) besties in Deviantart City and that she came up with the idea to do hero and villain teams because of his Adamantiums and Alanastiums, she also explained that originally she was in a team called Redemption Force which was very similar to that.  She looked around for a little bit, she remembered how she saw the Goosebumps funko pops and remembered seeing the Bad Hair Day,  Werewolf Of Fever Swamp,  Haunted Mask and Slappy ones.  ‘I always think of Bjorn when I see Slappy,  because that guy is a very fun Youtuber and Goosebumps fan and Slappy is a favorite character of his.’ ‘Do you think of Jables Jr’s dad Jack Black as well?’  ‘Oh yes, because Jack Black was very good as both Stine and Slappy in the movie.’

She looked around as she saw lots of friends and even some Pokemon. ‘One of these days should I ever get the money for it I am buying myself a Nintendo Switch to play the New Pokemon Snap game.’  ‘Oh you should definitely buy THAT!’ Piff responded. ‘Yes, you and Tangie would love the underwater level.’  ‘Oh look, there’s a Sleepy Hollow pop and it’s of Johnny Depp,  I bet you know of someone who is a Depp fan.’  ‘Oh yes I certainly do.’

They looked at the books and board games…’If that Finspan game did not cost over 90 dollars to buy I would buy it for myself to play with because it’s a game we could all play.’  ‘Oh yes, a game about fish is definitely a fish game that we could all play together.’

After leaving EB Games they headed to Toy World and as luck would have it, there were a lot of squishmallows waiting to be adopted, they all walked down over to the squishmallow section and Mel had found what she was searching for,  halloween squishmallows, halloween was always her favorite time of the year and last year’s halloween adventure had not only been a smash hit due to her going on a trick or treating adventure with her friends, but also because it was Piff’s first ever halloween special adventure,  and since then he had gained a love for halloween adventures.

Mel saw the vampire squishmallow holding a packet of garlic fries, she saw the purple potion and she saw many others but the one that she saw that she had been hunting for the whole time was none other than the werewolf,  for years she had been searching for that  werewolf squishmallow,  she first spotted him a couple of years ago when Ysa was still in the cast of supporting staff members and he was in a keychain size, she had been trying to find him ever since but she had not found any luck.

But that changed when she saw him and immediately the werewolf squishmallow, introducing himself as ‘Nick’ signed up to become the newest member of the family as the vampire and potion were added to the wishlist, Piff saw the two lookalike pufferfish that looked exactly like him, both of them were fighting over which one of them was the most like him, ‘the fish that is most like me is me, the one and only Piff.’ 

Mel always checked the palm pals to see if the little one eyed orange monster that looked like Aivyan was there but she was shocked when she had found that he had vanished, she and the others had rescued him not too long ago, and it puzzled her that he had gone missing again, so they all walked out of the store with their friends and headed into the Warehouse.

The store was all decked out for halloween and had all sorts of halloween decor, toys and even sweets and they all gathered together as they explored it, they saw so many different costumes and props and they even saw a whole box filled with Nightmare Before Christmas squishmallows,  Piff dug around inside it and he saw Jack Skellington and Sally as squishmallows and an Oogie Boogie one. ‘Finally, an Oogie Boogie one I can afford to get. The one in EB Games was a bit pricey.’  Mel responded.

‘And look,  it’s the spooky snackles from when we met Ed the zombie.’  ‘Oh yeah, it definitely is them.’  ‘And hey, look it’s that vampire you were looking for last time, Mel.’ Oats added. ‘You found the vampire?’  ‘Well yes, Andrea did say she saw him in a big box and this is the box she must have meant.’  ‘Oh yeah it all adds up now.’  This was followed by them all excitedly hopping over to where the Snackles were usually found and Piff jumped for joy. ‘Patrick Star! You’re here?’  ‘Yeah i’m here with my buddy Spongebob.’

The gang all made the way to the plush toy section and saw all the squishmallows, palm pals, and assorted friends including the Snackles, and that is where Piff saw Spongebob. ‘Hey Spongebob, good to see you again!’  ‘And it’s great to see you again too Piff.’  ‘About time you and Patrick showed up here. Last time I met you, you were at K-Mart in Albany.’  ‘I know, we finally have arrived in this mall and I am so happy.’  ‘Are you ready to have some fun in here?’ ‘Oh yes I definitely am ready.’  ‘Are you ready?’  ‘Yes, I’M READY!’

‘Can you tell Spongebob and Patrick to stop running around the store? They’ve been disrupting my nap.  I was dreaming of the time we all performed Sweet Victory’   ‘Sorry Squidward.’ Spongebob responded.  ‘Holy nudibranchs, you’re here too Squidward?’ Piff exclaimed. ‘Oh yes I am and since those two have arrived, I have not gotten a moment of peace.’  ‘Well that is too bad,  i’m sure if you ask them nicely they’ll let you play too.’  ‘Unless it’s with a clarinet, no thanks.’

Piff giggled as he gave Spongebob a hug and Mel smiled. ‘I remember when I went with my very first true best friend Ossian, to go and see your movie in the theater and we couldn’t stop laughing because we thought it was so funny.’  ‘I am glad you liked my movie.’  ‘I loved it.’ ‘And I love your show in general.’  Piff added, pointing out favorite characters and moments from the show.    

Corey saw some Disney Snackles as well including Sulley from Monsters Inc, Olaf from Frozen, Minnie and Mickey Mouse, and even one of the LGMs from Toy Story. ‘Oooh, a visitor has come to see us, oooooooh.’  the LGM cooed in his signature way.’  ‘And hey look, a Monsters Inc character cameo,  hey Sulley. I bet that ice cream is for you and Mike or you and Boo to share.’ 

After finishing up at the Warehouse they helped Maria pick out some candies for halloween and headed to Chemist Warehouse where they saw some halloween beanie babies and where Piff sniffed the shampoos and bathbombs. ‘Oooh Tangie, do any of these scents sound ideal for you?’ ‘Oh yes, they certainly do.’

They helped Mel pick out shampoo and body wash for Maria as they all walked out of the store and headed to the food court,  Mel had been experimenting with different food tastes every time she came to this mall, sometimes she’d have asian food and sometimes she’d have something like KFC and she and the others all had a quarter meal pack.

Afterwards they helped Maria pick a donut to give to Rachel, as Mel picked out a halloween donut and they all checked out Whitcouls before heading to the lift, unfortunately there was a bit of lift mishaps as they keep being taken to the wrong floor, but of course this was fixed when they exited the mall again and headed back to the direction of the car,  when they hopped back in the car they drove all the way back to where the other lift was.

Upon entering the other lift they all stepped inside it and it took them to the second floor, where they headed towards the place to replace the key for the house, years ago Mel had picked a key for the house that was glamorous and pink and now she had picked a gold one,  they all looked around and saw what appeared to be an octopus themed towel in Brisco’s and Mel recalled how she was amazed to have found squishmallows in that store -  even a squishmallow themed pet bed, and Piff agreed that it was an amazing experience, especially rescuing that poor yeti squishmallow that fell off the shelf.

Seeing fish themed things and pointing them out was Piff’s favorite mall pass time and he loved doing it with his friends,  which was followed by the gang and their new werewolf friend meeting two very familiar characters -  Elmo and Cookie Monster from the television show Sesame Street, Mel recalled how on many adventures Zara had to this mall she’d be the one to meet all sorts of characters and even have photos taken and get a balloon, of course she was also one to do that because she high fived Tigger and Cookie Monster at one point.  

Mel shook hands with both of them and even got a balloon from both of them as they all headed out of the mall and back to the parking area, but before doing so they all had the cute halloween donut she had picked out, and the floating orange car took them all the way back to their home in Nile Road.

An hour later they arrived home and gathered together for a fun session followed by a call from Jill and afternoon tea, afterwards they played with Riko the Rizmo who had been growing and transforming ever since Mel had been teaching him and they were saw a delighted Belinda and Rachel waiting for them.

When it was time for dinner they had quite a selection of delectable foods and they even had a second helping afterwards and were treated with something extra special later, followed by Mel emailing Jill later on about their adventure as Piff and Tangie had a fishing trip and caught a lot of fish and they were both extremely happy to have done so.

Afterwards there was a karaoke and games session as Nick the werewolf squishmallow enjoyed hanging out with his new friends, when it was time to relax there was a soothing ASMR session with Piff and Tangie playing all their favorite fish themed games and making fish themed arts and crafts as Corey put on his bat pajamas and Oats put on his pink night-gown.

They all brushed their teeth as Piff initiated a special halloween version of the closedown sequence featuring the animated pufferfish exploring a halloween themed squishmallow village and even setting up a home of his own inside a giant pumpkin with a ship carved on it,  the pufferfish brushed his teeth and yawned as his clothes morphed into pajamas and the background transitioned from night to day and the goodnight message appeared on screen.

Piff floated into bed with Tangie as he kissed her and gave the goodnight speech which was: ‘Well we had what I call the best halloween hunting adventure ever and finally were able to adopt a squishmallow that Mel wanted for so long,  Nick is now part of our family and is one happy werewolf and now we can all go to sleep tonight as one big happy family.  Goodnight to you, love from all of us here at Nile Road.’

Anglo turned off the light and they all drifted off to sleep, including Piff, they all had sweet halloweeny dreams and even dreamed of making many more squishmallow friends as their adventure ended, but more are coming up so stay tuned.
