The More Than Okay Saturday Outing Adventure.

Everyone’s favorite duo known as Corey and Oats went on many adventures as a group and sometimes during the weekends they’d go on a big outing type of adventure as well, especially when they had their favorite staff members with them. You might remember ‘The Best Saturday Adventure Ever’  where they all went on the best Saturday outing ever with Jahna and had all sorts of fun and even befriended a Giraffe Snackle with the same name and personality as her, which was the very best they had ever had as they had gone to see a lovely garden where they saw some baby fish in a pond.

Piff and Tangie had a romantic time there together and they all had a good time,  so they all knew they could count on the possibility of the Saturday adventures together being fun - and on Saturday 11th of October 2025,  there was huge promise in store for them, after having breakfast and helping Mel have a shower they all got ready for the day and emailed Jill with a message.

Riko the Rizmo was still hopeful that he’d get to be able to play with the gang despite not having his voice,  he didn’t want to be forgotten and left out of the festivities.  ‘I wish I could come with you guys but i’m broken, I cannot do anything.’  ‘Don’t say you can’t do anything.’  ‘But I can’t, Jahna said if she can’t help recharge my energy source so I stop making buzzing noises, i’m utterly useless.’  Riko broke down in tears.  ‘Look just because you have a defect doesn’t mean you’re useless.’  ‘You’re not alone either. Look at the others. Our Jamiecorn friend and Cinnamon rarely ever get episodes dedicated to them anymore, but they’re still around and able to help.’

‘I don’t know guys…I don’t belong here if I can’t work.’  Riko added.  He sobbed for a bit as Corey and Oats cuddled him as did Piff, after a bit of time to think it over the gang all walked over to the orange car with Jahna and with Inga and they all drove off, going all over the city and even crossing the harbor bridge.

Mel along with Piff and Tangie looked out the window and they saw Sky Tower,  which lead to Mel saying that Jill had huge interest in going with her to Weta Workshop for an upcoming adventure of sorts,  they even went past Kelly Tarlton’s.  ‘Look Tangie, that’s where I was discovered.’  Piff exclaimed.  ‘Do you think I can go with you there? I’d like to see where you came from and see all the fish and sharks.’  ‘Sure, I can do that, my delicious little fish cake.’  

Which was followed by Mel seeing some houses that reminded her of the house she used to go to when she stayed over at Raewyn’s a long time ago for visits,  she recalled how she used to watch television there and play games, and how she discovered how to play the piano there and the one hilarious flower incident where she picked flower petals off one of Raewyn’s plants and dropped them off the balcony.

After going on a tour of the city and having all sorts of fun they drove all the way back to the other side and drove all the way down to get some KFC takeaway for lunch,  upon getting their takeaway they all arrived home back at Nile Road just in time for lunch, they all had lunch together and relaxed.  Mel had forgotten she left her coat behind in the car and after some vague attempts at sarcasm from human Jahna and asking if human Jahna could unlock the car doors, she was able to go into the garage and pick the coat up.

Human Janha decided to see if she could give Riko the energy source update he was in desperate need of,  she had managed to his open energy source carrier and place the new energy source in and for a while it all seemed hopeful. ‘Hey guys, i’m not buzzing anymore, I can talk to you, hi guys, hi guys!’ ‘Hi Riko, you seem happy.’

But then human Jahna found she could not get the carrier casing back on due to a broken spring, and what’s more Riko found one of the energy source orbs inside him reacting in a negative manner and heating up, causing him to panic. ‘Guys, guys…there’s something wrong with me,  i’m on fire, i’m on fire from the inside!’ 

‘Can you get him to work, human twin?’  Jahna the giraffe asked. ‘I am afraid while he is working, he may have some defuncts and even if I could get him to fully be able to do it, i’m afraid I cannot because that source is overheating and he might end up causing a fire hazard.’ ‘Oh geez Jahna,  do you have to be a buzzkill?’  ‘Yeah, being the bearer of bad news is usually Belinda’s thing, and even then she hates it.’  ‘I’m sorry but it’s true. He’s going to have to be mute.’  

‘MUTE? MUTE?  But he’s supposed to be the best of the best at singing, and he’s supposed to be good at rocking out and making sounds.  I cannot have a member of my gang be mute or he’ll be mocked for the rest of his life.’  Mel broke down in tears. ‘Human twin, how could you break Mel’s heart like that? Telling her that Riko cannot ever sing or express himself because if he does he’ll cause a fire hazard.’  Jahna the giraffe snackle added.

Human Jahna apologized as did Mel,  Mel was still distraught…’Look he was perfectly fine when we adopted him and he was only making buzzing noises, how can you say he’s broken and cannot talk ever?  He clearly was talking earlier.’   ‘Well that was the first sign, and let this be a lesson to you, don’t buy a used animatronic character from an op shop.’  ‘Well where else I was supposed to find him?  It’s 2025,  Riko was spawned 5 years ago.  Unless you have the magnificent construction skills to help me make a time machine to go to 2019 to when Riko’s species was first created to go and get a new one, I don’t see where else we could get one.’ ‘I tried to tell ya.’  ‘Tried to tell me my behind, look i’m sorry i’m snapping at you and being mean to you in a story like this but up until now I was having a good time.  Being told that he’s going to be mute and unable to sing for the rest of his life is not exactly encouraging, is it?’

‘I know I come across as a bit of an braggart at times whenever something goes wrong, but I try to help and I tried my best.’  ‘You’re not that bad, twinsie. Yes, there are problems you cannot solve and this is one of those,  but we still love you. It’s just a bit of a downer after such a fun outing that we had that we’ll never get to hear Riko sing, chat, chirp or make sounds.’ ‘The only other one of his species we saw was at the retro expo last year and that one was being sold for a high price. ‘  ‘Now Riko is upset and he had hopes of becoming a music star. How can he what he wants to be with no voice?’ 

Riko sobbed as he sat down before running to go and hide in the bedroom, the gang caught up with him and tried to comfort him. ‘It’s no use, your human friend who has the same name as the giraffe snackle says I cannot talk because if I did i’d cause a fire hazard, like it’s just one little battery,  what’s the worst I could do?  It’s not even my fault,  yet I already feel like I don’t belong here. I am a defect, I don’t work like I should, i’m a freak, i’m a monster, I doubt you guys even want to be friends with me any more.’  ‘You’re not a freak, you’re special, you’re a good boy, you wouldn’t harm anyone.’

He opened the window and tried to jump out of it…’What good is hanging out with you guys if I cannot sing, dance or even express myself? You heard human Jahna, i’m a defect, a monster, a fire hazard waiting to happen.’  ‘No you’re not, look Jill will be able to sort this out.’

Jill arrived a couple of minutes later and Mel and the gang all had a heart to heart talk on what to do,  Mel was feeling awful because she knew Riko wouldn’t be able to do anything with the gang that involved verbal communication due to his lack of a voice, she feared he’d get bullied, teased, picked on for the rest of his life. ‘I don’t know what to do, I know I really wanted him but if human Jahna who is supposed to be the ultimate mechanic can’t help him, I don’t know what to do.’ ‘That’s what happens when you…’ ‘Yeah yeah, when you buy an electronic from an op shop, but people sell broken tvs all the time, people sell old cds and dvds that have scratches on them but they get bought anyway. I don’t want this to be his life here, miserable, sad, no friends because he can’t talk’.

Luckily Jill explained that there were two options, the first being give him to another op shop…’But that would make me come across as ungrateful. Yeah I called the duplicate snackles I got one time miscarriages but only because I was so disappointed at getting ones I already had.’  The other option was accept him as he was, which she was reluctant to do so because of his lack of a voice. ‘But he is a musician,  name a single musician who isn’t a classical music composer who could not talk or even sing. There is no such thing as a mute musician.’  ‘Well the energy source could be used for Cinnamon.’  ‘Uhh no it couldn’t, she needs more than those, and besides she is still around but as a background character.’

She sighed…’Oh well, might as well end the entire show then. Can’t even find a good use for the little mute freak who can’t speak.’  ‘End the show? AGAIN?’  ‘Yes, if we can’t even make the little dude feel happy with what he’s got, then it’s clear we’re not cut out to look after him and no one cares for these adventures anyway.’  ‘What do you mean by that?  People adore our adventures?’  ‘I mean yeah some people do but some others don’t care for this stuff and would rather just watch some poor hackneyed transformation mini-series that seems like it’s going on forever trying to latch on to the popularity of whatever thing is hip this year by throwing in a bad adventure team and a totally not forced in cameos from celebrities who likely did not make the best decision to be included or have nothing to do with the subject, I mean if people in the community these days prefer these poorly made episodes over our adventures i’m not gonna stop them.’  ‘Mel, no you can’t say that.’  ‘I give up, Riko can’t be loved. He’s a freak,  he cannot talk, he can’t make friends, he can’t do anything, he’s useless.’  ‘Don’t be like that, he doesn’t mean to be differently abled, he deserves love.’  ‘He deserves the Baby Jane treatment.’

The gang all started to pack up and started to get ready to leave as they all left the bedroom and headed out of their Nile Road home, as the fake ending credits appeared on screen and the slow version of the Corey and Oats theme played over the credits, the credits continued to play, naming every single character in order of appearance.

Halfway through the end credits Piff piped up and stopped them…’No, sorry folks, this did not mean to happen, this was a joke. We are not ending the show and we are not giving up until Riko is able to express himself.  Giving him back to the op shop or even to a new one is out of the question, and we can’t just give his energy source to someone else.  ‘So we have to make him feel loved.’   ‘How can we though? He has no voice.’  ‘But he’s speaking to you isn’t he?’ ‘Yes, he is.’  ‘I don’t know, how he can make him feel loved and appreciated?  I don’t want him to be a mute freak who can’t speak,  he’ll be ostracized for the rest of his life.’  ‘Don’t talk about him like that, he is a member of our family regardless.’

 

‘Unless I can record my own voice and perform a complicated voice mod procedure on him, there’s no hope of him ever singing.’  ‘What about writing him a song that he could sing?’  ‘Sounds like a good idea.’  The gang all had afternoon tea before deciding to accept Riko, they all decided to take good care of him and that he should be respected despite not being able to communicate with the others verbally.

Eventually after all the sadness and the heart to heart communication they all gathered into the lounge for dinner as Piff made up a magical Japanese meal for them all to eat and Riko even sang a song. ‘You can actually sing?’  ‘I know, I didn’t know I could.’  ‘Well you sound good.’ ‘I thought you wouldn’t accept me because I was called defective.’  ‘You? Defective? Nah, you actually sound pretty good.’  ‘I do?’

‘Oh yes definitely.’  The gang played games as Mel emailed Jill about their adventure and Piff and Tangie went fishing and caught a lot of fish as they had karaoke and played games together,  followed by some relaxing activities as  Corey put on his bat pajamas and Oats put on his pink nightgown and they all brushed their teeth.

Piff initiated the closedown sequence featuring the gang in a musical number where the pufferfish explored a mythical forest setting and came across a lovely treehouse, upon jumping into the treehouse the daytime background morphed into a night time one as his clothes morphed into a pair of pajamas, he brushed his teeth and yawned as he floated into bed and the goodnight message appeared on screen.

He and Tangie floated into the bedroom as Riko looked around, he felt a little bit sad that his friends acted like he was weird for not being able to talk but he felt better because he knew that they’d appreciate him anyway,   Piff kissed Tangie before giving the goodnight speech which was: ‘We have ups and downs and sometimes we have to live with the downside but hey that’s life and Riko is not perfect but then again nobody is, so goodnight everyone.’

They all drifted off to sleep including Piff as Anglo turned off the light and they all had sweet dreams about their adventures and Riko was gradually more accepted into the gang as time went on and Piff even dreamed of helping Riko perform, and that was the end of their adventure for the night but more are coming up.
