Entering Nightmare City

A nightmare is a type of dream that you have that is bad or scary, nothing makes sense in dreams but that doesn’t mean you cannot speculate…our favorite microbe and equine duo was having trouble sleeping one night and they came to Mel for help, Mel offered to take them on a magical dream journey to find the source of nightmares and that’s when they concentrated and the bed transformed into a limo and flew through the window, taking them to a city where it is always dark even if it is daylight.  Corey and Oats were both a little afraid but didn’t mind as they traversed through the city and arrived in what appeared to be a nightmare level based on what appeared to be someone’s childhood home in England.

In their previous adventure they had been to this city…Nocturnal City, where it is always night even during the day.  Corey was very afraid at first but he didn’t mind, as he and Oats looked around the city…seeing various monsters roam around was creepy yet fascinating. Mel helped them as she showed them a mother koala which was Nathan’s spirit guide. The duo looked around the city as the creatures danced around, wreaking all sorts of supernatural havoc.

Corey wandered down the street as he saw a building which was some sort of park hosting a halloween party,  he investigated the party only to come across what appeared to be performers in costumes turning into real versions of the characters they were dressed as, followed by performers turning demonic and charging towards him. He screamed before heading towards a graveyard area and hiding behind a grave. That’s when Oats came to help his friend as he used his magic to fight off some demons.

Oats saw some ghostly ponies floating around as they headed towards what appeared to be a halloween store that resembled a Spirit Halloween store, the duo and Mel walked through the store…seeing lots of monsters coming to life and the like. He heard what appeared to be the sounds of demons but he wasn’t afraid.

The trio headed down one section of the store as ghosts floated around them, but luckily some of their friends from the actual Spirit Halloween were there to help them such as Lord Raven, Monty and Possessed Pumpkin.  Corey turned into a bat-like form as Oats became a ghostly pony and the group encountered numerous monsters.

Corey flew over to what appeared to be an elderly gentleman that resembled the character of Doctor Nefario from Despicable Me, the elderly gentleman seemed to be helping out looking at the Nightmare Before Christmas and Hocus Pocus merchandise when the covid microbe asked him a couple of questions and wondered if he had seen him before.  There was something oddly familiar about the man, maybe it was the British accent that reminded Corey of someone.

“Excuse me mister…I don’t believe i’ve met you before.”

“Oh I believe you have.”

“What do you mean by that? Your badge says your name is Mr N..Fario.”

“Well actually…i’m not him, the real Mr N.Fario is alive and well in this store.”

‘Is this going where I think it is?’  ‘You mean that trope where the person unmasks and it’s another person underneath?  Sure…that’s where it’s going, but just because this is fitting for the story.’  ‘If the real Mr N.Fario is at the store too, does that mean?’  ‘That’s right…i’m not him, i’m…’  Mr N..Fario’s doppelganger reached at the sides of his face and pulled at it, taking off bits as off they were a rubber mask, and then pulling it over his head to reveal he wasn’t who he was. 

When he took the mask he had of Mr N.Fario off and put it aside, he addressed the duo…’Actually Corey, yes I do know your name, because i’ve seen you before, yes…Corey I have met you and your friends, as I mentioned, I am not Mr N.Fario…i’m Russell.’ ‘Russell Brand? What are you doing working here?’  ‘I am here to help you to fend off the evil entities that lurk in this place.

“So you were posing as an elderly person despite the actual person still being alive?”

“I was filling in for him.”

“Unless you’re not really Russell and that there’s another mask underneath.”

‘Of course i’m me.  That was the only mask I made to wear.  I disguised myself like that to hide from people. But that does raise an interesting question, are we ever truly ourselves or are we just putting on costumes to deceive those we love? That is indeed something to pontificate about.’   ‘You seem to pontificate a lot about these sorts of things.’  ‘’I’m just curious and ask a lot of questions, that’s all. No harm in that.’

“Have you ever heard curiosity killed the cat?”

Russell perked up as he ran over to Mel and hugged her…’Oh Mel, I love it when you come along with your offbeat sense of humor.’  Mel laughed as she hugged him back. ‘Well we are glad to see you. We could use your help here.’ ‘I’d be more than happy to assist you three and help you.’

“Thanks, you’re a true friend.”

The trio and Russell navigated around the shop’s many areas as they saw several undead customers coming towards Mel,  Mel got out a chainsaw and sliced several of them up while Corey turned into a number of creature forms.  Oatsie found himself helping by distracting several of the customers by doing the Thriller dance.

Corey raced around, grabbing various halloween props and using them as weapons in the battle,  while Oats’s dancing distracted some of the undead customers and stopped them from getting to them.  Mel and Russell concentrated on some dark supernatural energy attacks and fought off some of the remaining group.

After clearing away the undead customers and some of the monsters, a passage-way opened at the other side of the store which lead to the exit and into another level of the city, this one resembling a studio or museum that had several movie and tv props, one exhibit was one Mel knew well,  an exhibition themed around the British satirical puppet show Spitting Image and it included puppet caricatures from the classic 80’s version and the modern version, they saw numerous puppets of famous people in that very specific style the show was known for, despite being puppets the Spitting Image caricatures were presented as being real like with the Muppets.

Corey originally was a little bit scared of them but he perked up when he saw how funny some of them were and he realized that they were actually pretty amusing, and when he saw there was a puppet version of him, a covid microbe named Roni to be exact. After that, the trio and Russell raced into the haunted bookstore area where they saw a whole section of Goosebumps books. That’s where they saw a mysterious floating letting G that turned the customers into monsters.   

They managed to fight off the customers before running down the hall and into the section with the ghost ponies, where Oats asked them to help. The ghost ponies helped the group navigate the remaining area as well as combat a demon horse-monster that looked like the horse from Oats’s nightmare.  ‘There she is, mommy. There’s the demon horse who keeps saying i’m unpretty.’  

The demonic horse-monster whinnied and charged towards Oats but Oats realized he didn’t have to be afraid of her anymore and told her that prettiness didn’t matter, it was what was on the inside.  She apologized to Oats and hugged him.  After that, they found the items that were needed to complete the mission and they obtained them all before being teleported to the entrance of the city where they were rewarded.  

“We did it…”

“Yeah…that was awesome.”

“There’s one more thing to do though.”

“What would that be?”

Oats looked over at Mel and handed over the locket he had found at the bookstore, it was one that one of the ghosts had left behind. ‘Mommy…shall we give this back to the ghost who is probably looking for it?’,  that’s where he saw the ghost floating by, a female ghost at that.  ‘Is this your locket?’  ‘It is, thank you.’  ‘No problem.’  

After the female ghost floated away with her locket, the trio decided it was time to give Russell something for helping them.  Mel gave him a spooky animated toy that she sawi in the store, the toy was an animated toy made to resemble a plate of sushi, which also made spooky sounds as it moved around. ‘Thanks, for everything.’ ‘No problem, Mel..you know, out of all the friends i’ve known, you’re always the one I come back to.’ ‘You mean that?’  ‘Yes, I certainly do.’  

“Well it looks like our job here is done, we should go now.”

“Yes I think we should.”

Corey and Oats followed Mel as they hopped into the bed-limo from earlier in their adventure, but before they did…’Goodbye Russell, thank you for helping us.’ ‘See you guys again sometime, and no problem.’,  the bed-limo took off as it left the city and headed through the sky, and they arrived all the way back home to their house in Nile Road.  Once they arrived back at Nile Road, they arrived in the bedroom as Mel stretched and yawned for a bit.

“That was certainly quite an adventure.”

‘It was, and I learned so much about dreams, mommy.’  Oats responded, hugging Mel as got into bed with her,  Corey followed and jumped into bed as well as the trio snuggled up with their favorite owner and companion.  ‘Goodnight Corey, goodnight Oatsie.’  ‘Good night, mommy.’  Oatsie responded.  

“Good night Corey.”

“Good night Oats.”

‘Good night to you all, see thee in the morrow.’  Oats said to the other microbes and to Corey as he drifted off to sleep and had happy pink dreams of being a princess with a beautiful palace.  ‘Good night, Oatsie…friend.’  Corey responded as he drifted off after him and had a dream about being invited to a party in Oats’s palace with some of the other microbes.

All our friends had a peaceful night's sleep, the next morning they were very happy that they had slept well as they got out of bed.  That’s where Mel saw something on the table near her desk. ‘Dear Mel, I hope you’ll like this gift I got you and the microbes, I know you like monsters and Spirit Halloween, so I got you some of these as presents.’   Mel opened the box, finding some Spirit Halloween bag clip figures inside them.

“Aaaaw, did Russell send you that, Mel?”

“Yes, he did…he definitely knows what I like.”

“You’re lucky to have such good friends, mommy.”

And thus with that they all hugged each-other and got ready for what they had planned for that day,  Oats smiled as he saw his little brother Little Oats getting up for a day of playing and fun adventures in the bed-box.  ‘Good morrow to thee, little Oats.’ ‘Good morrow to thee, dearest brother.’   With this..the newest adventure comes to an end but don’t be sad, more adventures are coming up including ‘Koala Rescuers’ the ‘2022 Halloween Special’ and a couple of more fun adventures along the way.  Look for adventures featuring Celiac, and also the Webkinz Cyldesdale coming up as well.
