WB Reviews: Dragnet
Werebelushi:
Ah, it feels good to do another Aykroyd-Mania review. And what a perfect movie of his to talk about...now the whole adapting a television show into a movie trend is one a lot of viewers are familiar with considering in the 90's we've had adaptations of The Brady Bunch, The Addams Family, Mcnales's Navy, and Little Rascals among others including The Flintstones not to mention the numerous Scooby Doo movies including the two live-action ones in the 2000's, but this trend even dates back to the 80's. And this is one of them, Dragnet of course being a very iconic detective show from 1967 with Jack Webb as the legendary Joe Friday, this is the movie adaptation of that iconic show.
Our story revolves around Joe Friday who is actually the nephew of the OG Joe and is played by Dan Aykroyd, again...this role was differently tailor made for Aykroyd, Aykroyd himself is a major crime and law and order buff IRL and is an actual police officer and he collects police badges so this is a naturally perfect fit. He nails this role, and you can tell he memorized the mannerisms and everything while also making the role his own. Aykroyd's finest if you ask me outside of Elwood, Clifford Skridlow, Beldar, Roman Craig and Grocer from Grosse Pointe Blank and also Ray Stantz. He gets paired up with Pep Streebeck, who's played by Tom Hanks. I love comedic Tom Hanks, I wish he did more of these as opposed to his dramatic work.
Together the two of them must crack the case of the evil organization known as P.A.G.A.N (People Against Goodness and Normalcy) and save the city from criminals. I genuinely do love everything about this movie especially how Joe and Pep bounce off each-other and I love all of Aykroyd's mannerisms as Joe such as calling someone Mr or Mrs/Ms, and this movie in general is amazing. Not to mention the soundtrack is fantastic, with some hip and funky tunes courtesy of Art Of Noise who do their own cover of the theme song, and my personal favorite part of the soundtrack...the infamous rap song City Of Crime. You've probably heard Hanks talk all about it in his interview on Graham Norton and in addition to this, they should make a meme out of it. Heck, Conehead Love needs to be a meme too.
If you haven't seen Dragnet, you should...it's amazing, it's one of the best Aykroyd movies i've ever seen...at least in my opinion.
