WB Rant-ish: NBC Grinch Musical.

So NBC just released a sneak-peak of the new Grinch musical they'll be showing next month and well i'm not exactly impressed with the new Grinch design. This new Grinch looks more yeti or Geico Caveman than Grnch-like to me, either that or they're going for the Big Wolf On Campus look. In case you're wondering I am a huge fan of the Jim Carrey Grinch, mainly because it's a really cool design and like the character jumped out of the book. At least this is better than the 2019 Cats movie, but still...it bothers me that he's not very Grinch-like design-wise. I kmow the musical version of the Grinch differs than the live-action film or the Chuck Jones short film or the book depiction (especially since the book's Grinch is black and white with red eyes) but still, this is basically just a green version of the Hugh Jackman version of Wolverine. It's like if someone decided to depict Leatherface as looking like a GQ model wth a slightly crooked face and only a couple of missing teeth. That's the problem I had with Descendants, how come Mal doesn't look anything like her mother? She looks like she's a goth rocker wannabe, Cruella's son sort of has the black and white motif that his mom has but there's nothing else that makes you think 'yep, that's Cruella's kid alright', Jafar's kid looked like he was in a boy band, and Evie...I don't know what's wrong with her costume design but still. Also I think they got Gaston and Captain Hook messed up because Gill looks more like he's the brother of Harry (Captain Hook's kid) and not like he's related to Gaston. Also how come Uma isn't full figured like her mom is? Heck, that's the problem I had with Fire Emblem as a franchise..it's just the designs look too anime-esque and the character of Kaden looks more like a cosplaying pretty boy you'd see on one of those 'non-threatening teen magazines' but in anime-esque form, I mean for pete's sake his only traits that suggest he's non-human are his ears and tails and the fact he has the speech quirk of refering to people he's with as 'human', which isn't new considering plenty of non-human species do that in media, but still. If his species is known for having a lot of fur, how come he doesn't have any apart from his tail? How come he and all the male characters look like they could be mistaken for women? Would it kill whoever designed him to give him at least bit of fur on his hands or feet or maybe on his chest? Or maybe some fangs and claws? I mean he's part fox, shouldn't he...you know, actually look like one? I know the thing about Kitsunes is that they can disguise themselves as people, but still..you can tell he's non-human already because of the freaking fox-like ears that stick out from his hair. Give Darkstalkers some credit with Felicia, at least Felicia actually does have feline trait and isn't your typical 'cat-girl' depiction you see in anime, also note that i'm not complaining about Morrigan or her sister since you know both of those characters are SUPPOSED to be sexy and attractive because they're both succubi.

I feel this is basically like what NBC did with the promotion for Peter Pan Live where they showed Christopher Walken in full Captain Hook regalia looking a lot like a mix of the Jason Issacs version of the character and the Dustin Hoffman one but with some of the animated Disney version thrown in too only we ended up with if Walken was Jack Sparrow instead of Johnny Depp look. I know I shouldn't judge it before it comes out but as a Grinch enthuasist I can't help but judge this.
