WB Rants: Monsters.
Werebelushi:
You know what RP character type always annoys me? The character we're supposed to like and route for but as soon as he/she gets transformed and mind controlled they basically reveal their true nature. Seriously that really annoys me. You know that whiny Kong kid Mel talks about? Well his friend is like that in RPs and good lord is he fucking annoying as hell, we're supposed to relate to this jerk? I'm sorry but he has no right to complain about being vilified/stereotyped by Mel especially when not only does not understand how opinions work but also he can't play a good guy even if his life depended on it, even moments when he comes close to it still show his character is a dickhead and asshole. I am not going to be siding with a guy who immediately decides upon being transformed 'screw humans i'm going to make them all into animal-people or Pokemon and make them forget their old lives and then take over the world', if one of my friends acted like that I would kick their ass.
I'm sorry but he's not the one who should be talking when it comes to being vilified, considering he even plays monsters who are good with somewhat villainous intentions, it's like his default modes of acting are asshole/douchebag and dictator. Yeah he builds himself up as being a nice guy but like many dictators/assholes in general his true colors show as soon as he gets transformed. Maybe if he actually tried to play a hero as oppose to playing a hero who acts more like he is dictator mode or a human hating bigot, maybe he wouldn't be treated like this. He's the one vilifying Mel and not the other way around. And also enough with the world domination/assimilation plot endings. The former is overdone, cliched and sucks in general and the latter only works in the cases of creatures like the Cenobites or the Borg.
And it looks like Mel has captured another guy who portrays the same kind of personality as him. This guy pretty chews the damn scenery everytime he does a TF episode and everytime he does one he always does an assimilation plot gimmick. He portrays all monsters as assimilator types who are mindless and want to add people to their ranks. He portrays insect monsters in this fashion, he portrays demons in this fashion and he even portrays Pokemon in this fashion and he even portrays werewolves in this manner. He couldn't play them as good guys even if he tried. He portrays them all the same way and all monsters portrayed by this guy have one default mode...mindless killer/assimilator.
To put it in all in context I am going to mimic how he does it...*he clears his throat and does a Peter Lorre voice* 'Yeeeessssss, all humansssss must become ssssnakessss to sssserve the queeeen of the snaaaaakeeee people. All humanssss must be snakes.' And the transformation is something like this. 'The woman in the black tank top screams as her skin slowly peels apart to reveal slick greenish scales and her body grows, her tank top and jeans tearing while her body thickens, her legs slowly merge to become a tail as she cries out in agony. Her hair slowly falls out as her eyes become slitted and her teeth sharpen, her mind altering...making her loathe her human form and making her embrace what she's becoming as her face pushes out into a reptilian looking muzzle and she gains musculature, she hisses as she gazes upon her new master. She is now one of them, part of the clan of the snake-people and hates humans'. That's basically what he does. Using graphic, painful transformation sequences and MC to make a truly unsettling forced transformation. Do you like being human? Too bad because once this creep gets hold of you, you'll be a human-hating beast who wants nothing more than to assimilate others. He does this over and over. And the most offensive one he did was the werewolf one. He is aware that werewolves and weres in general don't act like that, right? A werewolf doesn't decide to be evil when they turn, when they lash out and get vicious...that's the curse affecting them and they cannot help it. Werecreatures are tragic creatures and NOT mindless assimilators, they have thoughts and feelings.
Also how werecreature transformations are represented in that episode....yeeeeah, i'm sorry but werecreature TFs are NOT instantaneous, you don't become a werecreature immediately after you get bitten. I'm a real were-creature and even I know that. Usually when you are bitten or scratched by a werecreature, you usually won't turn into one yourself until the night after the night you got attacked, and that's usually on a full moon night depending on the lore, although some can change whenever they want. The full moon in general lasts for 28 days. In Dungeons and Dragons if you are hit by Curse Of Lycanthropy you have to roll a 15 dice check and if you succeed you won't get turned, if you fail you'll contract lycanthropy and that's how it works.
This portrayal of werecreatures in this episode is racist to me especially since not all werecreatures are evil, savage monsters. I mean yes I do get angry at more than a few people but i'm not a bloodthirsty killer who assimilates people into being the same species as whatever I am, and in D&D there are two types of werecreatures...afflicted and natural ones. And there are also differences between werecreatures, vampires and zombies...this person thinks werecreatures and zombies are the same thing. They're not. But luckily you're talking to an expert.
Basically I can illustrate this by demonstration. Now...when you become a werecreature, more often than not you are going to be in for numerous sleepless nights, a tremendous amount of moments in which you are going to feel like you have killed your own best friend even if it isn't your fault, people wanting to hunt you down and do horrible things to you, being isolated from the ones you love and of course sometimes painful transformations and losing control. It is really the Britta Perry of monster scenarios. Yeah you get heightened senses, super-strength, etc...but you now have to be extra careful every night just in case it may be another full moon night soon. You still get to have your personality and mind, that is if you don't end up giving in to the 'beast'.Other times you may just get lucky and become a local hero.
Then there's zombies, once you're a zombie you can look forward to looking and smelling pretty awful, people confusing you for Iggy Pop (or one of the Rolling Stones. No offense to the Stones of course), lurching around like you're Frankenstein's monster, not being able to eat or drink normal food and drinks ever again because all you'll eat are brains/flesh or anything else that humans have like organs for example, and sometimes literally falling to pieces. I hope you like your mind because once you're a zombie, you will be losing that. Not all zombies can be as glamorous as Linnea Quigley you know. Being a zombie is pretty much even worse than being a werecreature.
And then there's becoming a vampire...which is pretty much the coolest thing ever to happen to you. You get to live forever, you become really popular with both genders, you become super-strong and agile, you are now able to fly without the use of air based transportation, you can stay up all night and all will envy you, and guess what...you get to keep your mind and personality and the only drawback is the whole garlic and sunlight thing depending on the lore. Apart from that, it's like being a rockstar, there's little to no downsides and you can still be you.
If you think that werecreatures and zombies are alike, you clearly don't know the differences between the two species. I don't like this episode as it is racist to werecreatures and portrays them as mindless killers who only want to assimilate people to be part of the tribe/clan/pack and not as human beings who are tragic due to being what they are. If you portray all of your monsters as evil or human hating bigots, you are an anti-humanite. And that my friend is that, don't come whining to me if your precious were-story gets made fun of by Mel on her show.
