WB Rants: Fiction.

Werebelushi:
Hello everyone i'm That Werebelushi In The Shades and welcome to another rant...this time on criticism and satire.   If someone favorites pictures of your OC on Deviantart or comments on them,  that doesn't mean they are harassing you,  okay?  Maybe they like how that person designed your character and made them look.  It's not that person's fault.  Maybe they like the character but hate the person who portrays them.   If you think that they're after you or something,  maybe you should seek professional help.   I mean these people act like Nathan can't accept criticism which he can.  And for the record,  Nathan was doing a fine job of letting go of the past until certain people came along and dug him up.   What?  Does the word irrelevant mean nothing to them?

There is a difference between actual criticism and saying 'this work is a messed up pile of shit with a confusing plot' and making up bullshit that would make Alex Jones proud.  The difference is both negative and constructive criticism can be done and the latter is basically just bashing something and that's what this person did.  I'm sorry but I have a hard time believing people like that when they accuse Nathan of being an asshole to them when they're acting like that themselves.  He's not a serious reviewer/critic and neither I am, you are not going to get any deep critical reasoning from me.   But I am going to point out that it's odd for someone to say that they used to follow him and be his friend and then they drifted apart,  I mean they did they were friends and that he did nothing to them but still...it's odd.

What makes you ashamed to be his friend anyway?  Why are you admitting this to one of those people that gets paranoid whenever their OC gets mentioned in anything?  Why are you even saying this?  Since if this person is Nathan's friend and presumably still is...shouldn't they be asking for HIS side of story and not the people who target him?  I'm not asking for a court case here.  I'm just saying that they should at least ask Nathan about how he feels about what is going on because chances are it's different than how they interpret it.

Also...'not that good'?  Ummmm...correct me if i'm wrong monsieur but you are a fan,  yes?  You admit that you like Nathan's work and his monsters and such, right?  Good because here you come across as a contradiction as you think that most of his work is 'revenge-fics'...which is typecasting.  Yes,  the original seasons of TftW had 'revenge-fic' elements but that's only because of the material it is a homage to.   Tales From The Crypt OFTEN had dickhead characters who get killed off at the end of the episode,  and while there are some characters who were genuinely tragic and/or nice,  most of the time the characters in the show and the EC comics were assholes.  You should know this.

The Brothers Grimm's fairytales were pretty much like this too.   Are you going to say that fairytales are 'revenge-fics' too?  Obviously you have never seen an episode of Grizzly Tales For Gruesome Kids.    Saying that all of Nathan's works are 'revenge-fics' is like saying the only stories Stephen King only does are horror stories about killer dogs,  shapeshifting cosmic monsters who appear as a clown,  cursed hotels and possessed cars.  *sarcastically*  Yes, because when I read Stand By Me and Storm Of The Century I wondered to myself...'Where are the horrible flesh-eating/blood-sucking monsters and where is all the gore and violence?'.

Your dialogue complaint doesn't seem valid to me.  Making it look like you think that he speaks only in TV Troper talk and references.  To me it's like you are describing Seltzer and Friedberg more than Nathan himself.  Because not all of Nathan's dialogue has been like that,  you act like meta humor and cultural allusions/references are a bad thing.   Yes, TV Tropes has ruined my life a lot too but also i'm glad for it.  After all,  I wouldn't have learned what the word 'Squick' means without it.  And I wouldn't have become obsessed with Body Horror movies and transformation scenes in general without it.  And yes I am a troper AND a Large Ham.  I'm such a Large Ham that sometimes I have to film these episodes in a soundproof barrier to prevent people from going deaf upon hearing my voice.    And sometimes I just go full on Brian Blessed.

Also..i'm going to say this,  if someone has that much drama going on in their own life, maybe they shouldn't be causing drama for others to begin with.  Also I doubt writing a mocking story about someone you dislike would help either,  because isn't that technically doing a 'revenge-fic'?  Yeah,  it is and that would make them a hypocrite for doing so.

Do you understand what i'm getting at here...Nathan was being vilified by people like that for no good reason at all.  He should be the one you are being sympathetic to and not people who are his supposed enemies since those people are playing the 'victim' card when they're not the real victims.  Playing the victim card doesn't get anyone anywhere.   He feels like he is being vilified for having an 'opinion'.    He doesn't have to impress anyone and he doesn't have to impress people who only want to screw him over and vilify him for no good reason other than 'this guy sucks'.   I know people who don't like musicals but I don't see them going around burning down every theater that plays Cats,  Phantom,  Wicked or even Evita or Joseph and The Technicolor Dreamcoat.  I don't see these people harassing fans of those musicals or wanting to add Andrew Lloyd Webber to their own personal Death Note list.

Look,  I love Chevy Chase as a comedian and I love his characters but I hate him as a person because as a person he's an asshole.  He's a wonderful comedian and actor who made many of us laugh during the 80's and 90's,  but as a person he is difficult to work with and demanding and bitter and hates everything he has ever done.   That's his problem though and not mine.  I am not going to go around berating people who enjoy those movies or do fan-art of his characters,  and i'm not going to go storming over to ABC/Freeform demanding that they stop showing 'National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation' during the holiday season because the character of Clark Griswald is played by someone who is an asshole in real life, no....I am not.   Can you imagine if I wrote a 'revenge-fic'  like the ones you describe are?

*we see the Werebelushi writing a mocking Tales From The Web episode about Chevy Chase on Nathan's computer*

(Werebelushi:
*writing up the story*  Chevy turned around and reacted in fear as he saw a worm-like humanoid monster emerge from the shadows,  the worm-like monster grabbed him with his tail and pulled him into the bedroom of his apartment and then pulled him under the bed.  Normally he would have had a witty quip/one-liner but unfortunately he couldn't think of any so he just squirmed and squirmed as the worm-monster picked him up and breathed dark green smog in his face, he coughed and spluttered.  'What the hell are you doing, you freaks?' He spluttered.

But the monster did not respond,  he rather just shook his tail and his head as Chevy attempted to squirm away from him.  The monster noticed this though and decided it was time to teach him his 'lesson'.   The eyes of the monster turned neon green as dark energy flowed through his fingertips,  a dark energy beam blasted the comedian in the process.  Oooh, that's good.  Now for the transformation sequence.  Chevy convulsed in agony as soft, shaggy brownish fur slowly coated his entire body and his body stretched and contorted to become more lithe while his hands slowly became half paw-like and developed claws.  'Undo this right now!'  he barked.   The monster just chuckled as the comedian's feet shifted to match his hands and a tail burst out of the seat of his pants.

Within a few seconds later Chevy was covered in brownish fur as his ears became slightly pointed and his face slowly pushed out,  his voice which was regularly quite deep, now deepening a bit more as his teeth sharpened.  When the transformation was completed, he was now a werecreature of some kind, specifically a were-weasel which to be honest he always was.  'What have you done to me?' 'I have done nothing to you,  Chevy...you did this to yourself'...the monster insight-fully responded).

Werebelushi:
See?  You won't see me doing the revenge-fic route and personally I think mocking someone you don't like in the form of a revenge-fic is only going to cause more drama than help,  and if you have that much drama in your life you shouldn't be dragging others into your own online drama either.   You're only going to make it worse for yourself.  Vilifying someone for having an opinion isn't right and neither is giving in to delusion,  it's normal to like a character but to hate the person behind the character.   If you don't know what opinions and satire are, then maybe you are the one that needs a reality check.  Everyone knows characters like me don't exist and neither does Mel.  Fictional characters cannot come out of the screen and hurt you,  they don't exist,  and guess what...if you think that  revenge is the answer, it's not...all it brings you is nothing but pain and misery for the rest of your days.  And at the end of the day,  you only come out being even worse than the person who supposedly attacked you.
