The Gang Have An Out Of This World Evening Experience.

Corey and Oats went on many unusual yet fun adventures with all their friends including Mel, and they often went on lots of fun adventures together as a group and sometimes their adventures would take them to unexpected places, and the biggest and most unusual out of this world adventure began not in the day (unlike their usual adventures) but in the evening, but how does this amazing episode begin?  Well, let’s begin the story, shall we?

The tale began a week prior to this with Piff’s owner’s favorite friend (and sometimes playtime pal) Rachel organizing outings for the holidays and she came across a strange and interesting attraction called ‘Airship Orchestra’,  which was an elaborate art display made entirely out of inflatables,  she presented it to Mel and Mel rolled her eyes, initially opting not to go because she thought it looked ‘too dopey’  ‘too weird’  or something she would not be into, but after some coaxing and some research,  she was able to learn just how unique this attraction was.

What she initially thought would just give off ‘weird early am television vibes’ (as in the type of shows you would see on channels like Channel 4, ITV, CBBC or Cbeebies - or even Nick Jr to some extent in between the hours of 6-8 am) but it ended up giving her ‘science fiction’ vibes, as in those 80s sci fi and fantasy movies or movies that had a Steven Spielberg vibe (and the fact the titular orchestra was made out of singing inflatable aliens that gave off aquatic species vibes,  added to that), and she became fascinated and couldn’t wait to go.

Corey and Oats very much were excited too, Corey saw the creatures and he thought they looked like giant sized sculptures of microbes and Oats was mesmerized by the colors and even was delighted as one turned pink.  Fast forward to the day this grand adventure took place, 8th April 2026.  The day half of the adventure began with the usual, the gang, including Piff the pufferfish having fun together and having nice food for breakfast and lunch.

Which was followed by a brief adventure together as a group of friends, and the following afternoon they all went to help Mel get her blood test at the lab in Milford (after a bit of stumbling from Rachel, they were able to get there),  which was followed by afternoon tea. While that was the very start of the adventure,  it was only starting - after afternoon tea they all began to pack and head towards the floating van.  The floating van of course being one of many modes of transportation the gang often used to go from one place to another.

Piff had been hyped up about the attraction for the past several days and was nursing a deep fascination for the attraction and the creatures, he was wondering what they ate,  what planet they came from, what powers they had, whether or not they were kind or if they were evil, and why they would choose Auckland City’s theater as their home.  That evening they all got in the floating van and the van took off.

The van took off and took them all over the city as all sorts of witty banter happened within the van with the staff and Piff even got hyped up about it, as he saw the harbor and all the boats, and he thought about Kelly Tarlton's which was his favorite place (because that’s where he first met Corey and Oats and where he and Tangie had one of the most magical dates they ever had) and Mel spotted the Sky Tower which reminded her of Weta Workshop (which was of course one of her favorite magical experiences) and they all had a fun time.

When they arrived at the city the gang all examined the gorgeous night time atmosphere, that had the vibe of those ‘slowed’ songs on Youtube (where they take a song and slow it while showing scenes from retro animation from the 80s including anime and it makes a song you love ‘hit different’),  and Piff could imagine a music video in his head already.

Arriving at the grand destination was definitely a whole other magical experience as they could all sense the supernatural aura in the air,  they entered the Civic theater and walked down the stairs which took them all the way to the entrance of Aotea Square and there is where they saw the ‘magic’ happen,  16 spaceships of different colorful patterns landed gracefully in the middle of the street as living inflatable alien creatures with light up eyes jumped out.  ‘What are those things?’  ‘They look like sea-creatures.’  ‘They give me Jordan Peele vibes.’  ‘Jordan Peele?’  ‘Yeah, you know the movie Nope?’  ‘Yes. It’s one of my favorites.’  ‘Well these creatures remind me of the inflatable tube man/sky dancer that is used to lure the aliens.’

‘Yeah it does.’   Mel reached out and petted one of the creatures, the creature’s eyes lit up as he made humming and whistling noises. ‘Can these things talk?’  Corey asked.  ‘I think they can, they just have their own special way of communication.’  Piff responded.  ‘I hope they’re friendly.’ ‘Well according to the description they are.’   ‘And they have Tim Burton coded patterns too.’  ‘Yeah the stripes.’  ‘And the polka dots,  just like Tangie’s favorite dresses.’

Mel was fascinated by these creatures as they walked around inside the display,   the gang introduced themselves to the creatures…’Hello alien friends, I am Piff, I am an earth creature called a fish. Do you have fish on your planet?  I bet you do. Because you look like you come from our oceans.’   ‘I must say you guys look pretty tall. I do feel a bit intimidated by you.’  Oats added.  ‘Relax Oats, these creatures are friendly.’   ‘Phew, I don’t want to be abducted.’

Piff noticed the aliens were blinking and glowing as they were singing, changing different colors which reflected on him as Mel stroked, tickled and petted the aliens.  ‘It says here they are a tribe, quite a mystical one at that.’  ‘A tribe of glowing aliens?’  ‘Yep.’  ‘Okay this definitely makes things interesting.’   ‘Definitely.’   Corey watched as the aliens all sang a song and produced messages with their telepathic powers, and the gang were enamored by the magic lights produced from them.

After looking around they all had dinner out at a restaurant where Piff and the gang got to have dumplings and he even got to sit on Rachel’s lap and be the special dinner buddy as well as have a romantic moment with Tangie.  After dinner they all got out and walked out and headed back to the attraction, bravely crossing the roads and heading back to meet the aliens. ‘You know I was reluctant to go on this adventure at first because it gave off dopey trippy kids show vibes.  Like the kind of kids show that comes on in the morning right before your favorite show to watch just to fill the time slot.  I thought this was going to be Numberjacks crossed with Fimbles, heck, the black and white one looks a bit like the creatures from that show, but this is more like a real life Spielberg movie.’   ‘I get that, I mean something supernatural or mystical arriving in an otherwise normal location, the mystical vibe,  the music.  It feels like a cozy version of Close Encounters kind of.’  ‘Definitely.’

The gang cuddled the aliens and sang with them and the Nile Road crew all joined in, posing with the aliens and playing with them for a couple of hours. Piff smiled as he felt a warm feeling throughout,  they spent quite a bit of time with these aliens,  and it got to the point Mel felt like she was getting to know about them the more they sang.

After spending a lot of time they all headed back to the theater,  going back down the stairs and heading back to the floating van  - but before saying goodbye to the aliens,  leaving Mel forever entranced by their presence and the possibilities of what more could be discovered about them and their world.

The floating van took them all the way back to the North Shore and back to their home in Nile Road and upon arriving back home,  Piff was delighted to see that his subscriber count had gone up to 383 thanks to supporters and afterwards Mel emailed Jill about their fantastic adventures as Piff and Tangie went fishing and caught a lot of fish.

After fishing they all played games and relaxed as they played games and had a playing session and a karaoke session, followed by Piff and Tangie doing their favorite activities including bathbomb sniffing and Tangie’s bathbomb guessing game, as Oats put on his princess nightgown and Corey put on his bat pajamas.

Piff activated the closedown sequence featuring the animated fish couple going inside a magical display that was inspired by Airship Orchestra and it lit up the sky as the background shifted from day to night and their clothes morphed into night clothes as the mystical alien tribe sang a peaceful humming lullaby that sounded like an Enya song as the fish couple brushed their teeth, floated through the display and into a bedroom display as they kissed and the goodnight message appeared.

Piff floated into bed and kissed Tangie before giving the goodnight message which was: ‘Well we did not expect to be taken such on a magical journal and that’s just what happened today, we all had a magical trip to a magical world, a world unlike our own, a world inhabited by creatures with amazing powers, a world that is beyond imagination. And you know it was fantastic, we’d like to thank Rachel, Bel, Camela, and all the friends for making this adventure possible and we hope a sequel will be coming in the future.  Goodnight everyone.’

Anglo the angerfish turned off the light as they all drifted off to sleep and dreamed of the magical adventure they all had in the city with their new pals, and over in their home in Aotea Square, the Airship Orchestra aliens were all snuggling and sleeping and dreaming of the friends they had also met that day.  

And thus their adventure had come to an end but more are coming up, stay tuned for more.
