This is based on personal experiences and is about 'Mary Sues' and how that term is overrused when describing OCs in general and also brings up the topic of videos or blogs that bash Deviantart by only focusing on the 'worst'.

The term Mary Sue gets overused to the point of almost losing its meaning and sometimes we don’t even know what it even actually means, in fact we tend to forget that from time to time that not all characters that are original creations or have supernatural powers are Mary Sues or Gary Stus, and that’s a tragic thing indeed - especially in some cases.
There was a user named Greg Hunter aka Wolfgangfan43 who did a show in which he ‘critiqued’ people on Deviantart and one such user he talked about was one of Nathan’s friends, unfortunately for him he seemed to be getting into the wrong crowd with this commentary and he called a character said friend had created a Mary Sue, which was a bad move.
Said character was a wererat who was part of a Dungeons and Dragons inspired RP campaign, she was a wererat rogue who was flawed but respectable, but he didn’t understand that she had flaws and viewed her as an overly perfect character - which is to say he thought of them as a 'Mary Sue'. Big mistake on his part, as it soon come back to haunt him.
A couple of hours later he started to come down with an illness of some kind and he began to feel like had been infected with some kind of weird virus/disease, but the thing was he wasn't even physically ill. He began to itch like crazy, mainly due to a series of manifestations that were jolting through his body - slowly but surely these manifestations pulsed and quivered, as brownish hairs slowly crept up his arms as his arms lengthened, his hands shrinking down as the fur sprouted on his hands, his hands shifting to become half paw-like as his fingernails lengthened and sharpened.
In addition to this his torso and chest lengthened, his whole body losing its usual flabbiness as his stomach paunch retracted, his stomach in general slimming down as his back gained an arch to it, the fur now spreading up and down his body as two round formations known as breasts slowly developed on the aforementioned chest area, in addition to this his hips expanded as his legs lengthened.
His feet slowly shifted to become dainty and paw-like as his toenails lengthened and sharpened, matching his fingernails as his slightly torn-up socks tore apart, in addition to this a lengthy rat-like tail slowly tore out from the back of his jeans, his clothing morphing and reshaping itself into a very intricate silken gown of sorts as his privates retracted and were replaced with the more feminine variant.
Next to this his shoulders folded inward as his neckline altered, his hair growing longer as it turned from dirty blondish to jet black with a few silver streaks - his ears enlarging as they moved to the top of his head, the fur now creeping up his neckline and around his face as whiskers sprung out of his cheeks. His eyelashes widening as eyelashes blossomed around them, his features softening and becoming elegant and womanly as his nose shrunk, turning pinkish in color as his two front teeth enlarged.
Touching his face with his hands, he could feel it pushing out into a cute half muzzle of sorts which was rodent-like but very adorable and girlish as his voice elevated in octaves, becoming very breathy, womanly and sultry - his or her memories shifted as she remembered being a female wererat who was a rogue and on a quest with her younger sibling. Her name - Gracie, sister of Ruderick.
She checked the map that had been acquired recently to see where the next part of their quest was, checking carefully to see if there was any places that she had missed along the way. One location that was marked on the map was the dark forest and as she took a look at that location, the world around her shifted to match that setting, becoming a forest filled with wildlife.
"Looks like we've quite the adventure ahead of us.."
"We sure do...are you ready Gracie?"
"Ready when you are, little brother..."
"Come on, let's go!"
And thus - with that, Gracie ran off into the woodlands with her brother Ruderick, both wererats heading to the location of the next item to be added to their treasure collection, both of them also worked together to fight off an orc army before running off towards the temple to speak with the werepanda guru. Now she appreciated being who she was and the adventures she and her brother did together, she also appreciated what she had.
She didn't need to be perfect, she was fine the way she was. And as for what happened later, their quest continued as they went around looking for the rest of the items that were on the map, going on various sub-quests and doing what they do best.
Remember my friends, whenever someone uses the term 'Mary Sue' to describe a character, remind them that they've probably getting it wrong. And also remember to remind them that just because they claim to know how a certainly word works, doesn't mean they should use it. Also always remember to tell them that the particular term is overrused and they're not helping by using it and not getting it right in the slightest.
