Top 14 favorite vampires
Hi there, Monstermaster13 here with another list. If it is any indication by my username I just love monsters.
So in the first of my top favorite monsters lists and to commemorate the release of Tim Burton's Dark Shadows, i'm going to list my top 14 favorite vampires.
Don't worry, there is no Twilight on this list at all.
14. Angel (Buffyverse)
I just love Buffy The Vampire Slayer, it is one of my favorite tv shows. And one of my favorite vampires happens to be Angel.
He's a vampire with a soul and he's extremely good looking too, plus he's badass even in the most ridiculous of situations such as being turned into a puppet in the 'Smile Time' episode of his spin-off series.
13. Satanica (From Dusk Till Dawn)
Played by the beautiful Selma Hayek, this sultry vampiress is a dancer at a stripclub which is a secret vampire convention.
12. The Frog Brothers (Lost Boys)
The Lost Boys is one of those clever vampire movies that knows it's sources extremely well, and the vampires in this movie are awesome.
Especially the two Frog Brothers as well as a few other notable vamps, as a matter of fact this movie in general is inspiration for the character of Vincent in my Monster World series.
11. Nitara (Mortal Kombat)
The first female vampire on this list and it's from Mortal Kombat, this is Nitara, who much like Shang Tsung needs to feast on the life of her enemies in order to live.
And I gotta admit she is very attractive, I rather like her.
10. Mark Kendall (Once Bitten)
This was Jim Carrey's first film role before In Living Colour and before making it big in movies like The Mask, Liar Liar, Ace Ventura, The Grinch, The Number 23, The Cable Guy and so on..
In this one he plays a teenager who's trying to get lucky with his girlfriend but finds himself falling under the spell of the Countess.
And in one scene he does some truly terrific dancing, which you just have to watch in order to witness how cool it is.
9. Nos-4-A2 (Buzz Lightyear Of Star Command)
One of my favorite parodies of vampire lore, Nos-4-A2 is a take on the classic film Nosferatu.
But unlike traditional vampires who drink human blood, this one is an energy vampire and feasts on robots.
As indicated in the episode when he turned XR into his 'Renfield'. If a human is bitten by him however they transform into a mechanical monstrosity called a wirewolf - a parody of the classic werewolf lore.
The episode with him in it scared the hell out of me when I first saw it but I stil love it, as a side note Nos-4-A2 is voiced by late night host Craig Ferguson.
8. Count Von Count (Sesame Street)
From the mind of Jim Henson comes this adorable take on the original vampire himself Dracula, this is Count Von Count. Why is he called Count Von Count? Because he's a mathemetican and loves to count of course. Ah ah ha!
I just love this guy, especially his laugh and the thunder clap that occurs right after he does so.
He's so much fun to watch and one of the coolest Sesame Street characters. It's a pity he only gets second billing while Elmo gets all the attention.
7. Lee (The Vampire Diaries)
Now I don't watch the Vampire Diaries but I just love this character and do you know why? Because he's played by none other than...Brandon Quinn.
For those who don't know Brandon Quinn played the lead role in one of my favorite shows Big Wolf On Campus, and he's also been in a few other things including Entourage and even an episode of Drake and Josh.
This is one vampire I would not mind being bitten by.
6. Odette (Transylvania 6-5000)
I first heard about this one from Cinemasscare's Monster Madness, this is one horror comedy you can get on a double giftset along with Elvira: Mistress of the Dark.
This movie stars Jeff Goldblum and quite a few others including Michael Richards (yes..Kramer from Seinfeld). But most notably we have Goldblum's now former girlfriend Geena Davis as a sexy vampiress by the name of Odette.
And boy is this vampiress a hot tamale, I wouldn't mind seeing her late at night.
5. The Bartender (Suck)
This little vampire comedy came out in 2009 and features quite an interesting cast including another Big Wolf On Campus cast member..
This time the Big Wolf On Campus cast member featured in it is Danny Smith who played the adorkable goth Merton J. Dingle (coincidentally Merton got turned into a vampire in a season 3 episode).
But i'm here to take about number 5 on this list...The Bartender, who is played by Alice Cooper.
Now you're probably already know that without a doubt Alice is one of the masters of shock rock along with Ozzy Osborne, Metallica and many others but I just love him in this - especially with those wings.
The wings in particular remind me of the wings from the transformation dream scene from Black Swan.
This is one bartender who may seem normal but has a few secrets of his own, that secret being he's a vampire.
When we see him in his vampiric glory, he's offering to give our heroes a hand. And to make it even more awesome, Alice's own song "I Am The Spider" from the Along Came A Spider can be heard in the background.
4. Count Fangula (Beetleborgs)
Beetleborgs was one of my favorite shows as a kid, because it was so cool and action packed but the part I loved best were the monsters.
Flabber and the House Monsters were what made the show awesome in my opinion, especially considering the many antics they got up to.
I just loved tuning into this show just to watch the antics of these characters, Fangula serves as the translator to resident werewolf Wolfgang aka 'Wolfie'.
3. Count Duckula
Another comedic spin on vampires, this time from Britain. Count Duckula is not your typical blood-sucking creature of the night.
And this is because of two reasons 1 being that he is a duck and two..he's a vegetarian. I just love this character he's so lovable and funny.
The show in general is hillarious, in my opinion it is a lot similar to the second and third seasons of Blackadder.
2. Jerry Dandridge
Fright Night is my favorite 80's vampire movie, it's got horror, it's got comedy, it's got great performances in it, it's got transformations and epic special effects and makeup.
One of the best performances in this has to be Chris Sarandon as the deboir but at the same time sinister Jerry Dandridge.
I adore this character, one minute he's all charming and suave the next minute he's your worst nightmare.
The song that plays during the scene where he seduces Amy - which is Come To Me by Brad Fiedel is actually quite hypnotic and a really beautiful and enchanting piece - I like both the instrumental and the vocal versions.
Colin Farrel played the part in the remake but I don't think anyone would be able to top the original.
And...
1. Dracula
The original vampire himself Vlad The Impaler aka Count Dracula. Although he's not the actual original vampire, but he did jumpstart the vampire genre of horror.
There are so many variations of this character that is just so hard to choose, but my personal favorites would have to be Bela Lugosi, Leslie Nielson and Gary Oldman.
Some of my favorite homages/parodies including Dead And Loving It, Count Von Count from Sesame Street, Count Fangula from Beetleborgs and the African American version from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy (who is also a take off of Blackula, although I mainly think that Eddie Murphy in A Vampire In Brookyln was the inspiration as well).
But my personal favorite homage/parody comes from the Simpsons halloween special Treehouse of Horror 5 with Mr Burns in the Dracula role.
Burns invites the Simpson family over for dinner at his country house in...Pensylvania! *lightning strikes*. During the dinner party Bart and Lisa stumble upon Mr Burn's sinister secret. Unfortunately Bart is bitten and becomes a vampire along with some of his school friends (yes..that includes Millhouse).
Some of my favorite lines from this episode are as follows:
"Super fun happy side! (Lisa: No dad) Aaaw..I guess killing will be fun enough", the opening bit with the dogs playing poker..
"Aaah! They're dogs...and they're playing poker!",
"Lisa..vampires are make believe just like Elves, gremlins and eskimos",
"(Lisa: Dad, do you notice anything strange?) Yeah, his hairdo looks so queer. (Burns: I heard that!) It was the boy!"
"Welcome..come in..aah, fresh victims for my ever growing army of the undead..(Smithers: Sir, you have to let go of the button) Son of a b---!"
"Oh Lisa..you and your stories, Bart is a vampire..beer kills brain cells. Now let's go back to that..building thingy where our beds and tv is.."
"And if you say that you are a vampire you get a free small soda at the movies!"
"Bart...how many times I have told you not to bite your sis...wait a minute, you ARE a vampire! (Grandpa: We have to kill the boy!) (Marge: How do you know he's a vampire)..(Grandpa: He's a vampire? Aaaah!)".
"Kill my boss..do I dare to live out the American dream?"
And when Homer finally gets it right...putting that stake through Mr Burn's heart and as Burns melts, but not before spouting off his last line.."You're fired!" and dying.
In overall it is a hillarious segment and one of my favorite Simpsons halloween episodes
Dracula is one timeless prince of darkness and one character who despite the fact he's been nearly slayed so much times, he hasn't died since.
