 Corey and Oats: Detectives For Hire in...

The Case of the Animal-napper.

NOTE: This is the third in the Corey and Oats stories, this is one based on the Auckland Zoo adventure and this is basically one that is a detective/buddy cop story featuring the duo solving a case. Has a special guest appearance by my rat mushabelly character Ratty as the kidnapper.

The city of Auckland, a city that hosts many sights and sounds but most importantly it is home to Skycity, multiple different streets and shops and restaurants and Auckland Zoo. That’s where our tale for today takes place, and our heroes are the duo of Corey Covid and Oats the horse-person. It was March 30th, 2022 and it was at around 10:30 in the morning that the duo were working on a project when they got a call. ‘Hello.’ ‘Hello this is Corey Covid, how may I help you?’ The covid microbe asked. ‘There’s been a crime over in Auckland Zoo that needs to be solved, there is someone out there who keeps wreaking havoc at some of the enclosures and some of the animals are missing.’

“Missing animals you say?”

“Well then we’ll be right there…”

‘Corey…’ ‘Oatsie..’ ‘Let’s do it, we’ve got a crime to solve and it looks like it’s going to be an exciting case for us.’ The two of them put their shoes on and decided to head out, hoping on their flying motorcycles and gliding out of the office and all through the city, until they had gotten to the location they had been summoned over to…Auckland Zoo. Upon making it through the entrance, the two walked around the various different exhibits while ‘Peter Gunn’ by Art of Noise played in the background.

That’s where they saw an anthro panda-woman who looked a bit like Oats’s friend Soo, who was a pandaren with magic powers. ‘Thank goodness you two are here, there’s a case that needs to be solved.’ ‘We got your call and don’t worry, we’ve got it, let’s bring those guys to justice.’ ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’

“Oh thank you both, by the way..what are your names?”

“I’m Oats and this is my friend Corey.”

Corey nodded as he showed his badge to her…’My name is Corey, I carry a badge.’ ‘I hope you two can catch the fiend who is going around kidnapping those animals.’ ‘Don’t worry we’re on the case’’, thus the search began as the duo traverse around the zoo, following the kidnapper’s every move and making sure to double-check just in case they missed a few spots, the kidnapper left a series of clues for them to follow. Along the way they stopped and entered quite a few areas including the Asia and Australia sections and even going into the insect section, and heading into the reptile area.

They went through the wetland area along the way, taking photos of animals and taking photos of the clues they had been presented with, crossing the bridges and navigating through several boobie trapped areas, along the way they say quite a few people who had become anthro styled were-animals of different types who were all friendly and helpful to them, giving them a helping hand as they examined their surroundings, traversing through the traps and picking up more and more clues to find out about the animal kidnapper. The duo found themselves gaining multiple biome variant forms throughout and climbing over a number of different things.

The kidnapper seemed to be a male one, albeit one that resembled a humanoid rat-person who was going around kidnapping animals, he was wearing a black mask and slinky jet black suit to match and he seemed to be carrying around with him a bag of items, some of the items dropped out of the bag and landed on the ground, they picked up the items that had been dropped and gathered them up to be used as evidence. Eventually they found out where he was hiding, it was in the closed area titled ‘The Night’ full of nocturnal creatures, that’s when Corey found himself slowly changing into a half bat-like form while Oats changed into a flying ghost horse-person as the two of them pursued him through the cave.

“Hold it right there.”

‘I swear these aren’t mine…’ the rat-like kidnapper responded. ‘I know that Ratistainian accent, that’s my friend…’ ‘Oh…what gives it away?’ ‘Only you would speak with an accent that is ridiculously funny to listen to.’ Corey recognized the accent that came from the rat-like kidnapper’s mouth and voice…’Ratty!’ ‘Oh lumpigorgan, you found me out!’ Ratty, an anthropomorphic rat…responded as he took off his face mask. ‘Hello Ratty.’ ‘Hello Oats, and a hinga-dinga-durga to you, Corey.’ The covid microbe hugged Ratty, snuggling him and making him feel good.

“So what are you doing here, Ratty?”

‘I thought I’d set up this wonderful surprise for you two. You see, I was kidnapping these animals so that you could find them and I could give you these presents.’ He picked up a few items from his bag and presented them to Oats and Corey, they were special animal statues he had found in the gift store. ‘I was going to return them but you can have them.’ ‘We can?’ ‘Sure, you’re my friends after all.’

“You did a rather good job.”

“Thanks.”

That’s when a talking weta in a detective’s outfit appeared next to the three. ‘Hello boys, i’m Officer Weta, my name’s Peter and i’ve been looking for the kidnapper of those animals for a while now, you did a superb job tracking his movements and all.’ Ratty apologized for kidnapping the animals and he explained he didn’t mean to scare them as the group of them reported to the panda-woman from earlier. The panda-woman smiled as she hugged Corey and Oats.

The trio then headed over to the cafe for lunch and a drink, having some delicious cafe food before staying at the zoo for a bit more. A couple of hours later they were summoned by Mel, Mel was proud of them and she greeted them with a hug as she hopped on a flying motorcycle of her own, Oats and Corey hopped on their flying motorcycles and decided to head back home, following her in the process.

Officer Peter Weta and Ratty also got on the back of the motorcycles and headed home with them, and away they went, all the way back home to Nile Road with Mel to go and tell the others about what had happened. And thus with that our little tale ends, but not the adventures, as they’ll keep going on and on. They were treated to a good time with Mel and the other microbes later and Peter Weta became a permanent new member of the cast. As for what happened later, they all had a good time at home, listening to music, reading stories and getting inspired, there was never a shortage of inspiration for future adventures at their place.

The rest of the week was filled with fun too, including attending a party, and even helping with quests in Magic Kingdoms and playing Webkinz. Oats helped Mel gather up medallions so that Mel could adopt a fourth pet for her kinz Koala Sidney to look after. The two of them later spent some time together in the bedroom office, working on new projects and adding Peter’s name to the roster of officers that were part of their team.
