TftW: Alive At 11:35.

NOTE: The following story is a more light-hearted Tales From The Web story that parodies how most some people mostly trolls think of them as 'revenge stories'.   It is also the first Leno TF story in February and is a re-imagining of the Leading With My Chin story.   Also this story is a little bit on the sad side in the beginning and is based on true experiences. This also includes a couple of Tarantino references too.
---------------------------------------------------------
As any good storyteller will tell you,  every good story needs a beginning,  a middle and an end - and a twist as well.   And also another part of being a good storyteller or writer is the inspiration and what leads in the final result.    But sometimes it's not all that easy getting there,  there are obstacles one must face in order to reach the finish line and sometimes it is a very rocky and bumpy ride.   It's worth it though to know that you worked hard to get there and to know you achieved the goal you had been aching to achieve the entire time.   After all,  it's a long road when you're on your own.

Nathan Forester aka Drmusic2-1/Monstermaster13 was one such writer,  he had worked hard to get where he was in terms of his writing and even though he dealt with his share of life-threatening obstacles such as obsessive stalkeresque trolls and such,  he passed the trials with flying colors and he managed to not only outwit them but also outlive them.   He was a former failtroll himself but unlike the ones that trolled him he actually learned from his mistakes and learned that they shouldn't be taken seriously.   Of course it was due to his sense of humor and the inspiration it came from.

That inspiration came in the form of comedian Jay Leno,  who he had quite a lot in common with and admired.    He had been a huge fan of him ever since he first found out that he was going to be a speaker at the Michael Jackson trial in 2003,   of course he didn't actually speak up at the trial because he wasn't allowed to make jokes about MJ at said trial,  but he did do monologue jokes about him a couple of weeks afterwards.  Since then,  he had become enamored by Leno and his brand of comedic charm.   This was a comedian he could relate to in so many ways,  it was like he was a mirror image of him in someway.

One faithful mid-evening between the hours of 5:30 pm and 6:50 pm,  he sent a letter to Jay -  it was a letter he typed up after discovering his address on a website and he really wanted to tell him how much he liked him,   after the letter was sent off -  he waited for several weeks for a reply,  but alas...no such answer arrived, he waited for what seemed like ages.    He sent another letter to Jay just to be sure,  but still..no response.  He tried to remain calm about the situation,  but gradually overtime he began to lose his cool and he feared that the letter would never get answered,  he became paranoid and a little miffed.   Eventually,  he let his fear get the best of him and started to feel that Jay wasn't as nice as everyone said he was -  he began to suspect Jay was nothing more than a heartless monster who didn't care about his fans/supporters.   He went through what was known to him known as the embarrassing Jay-Hate phase and he didn't know why.

This started to shine through in the rest of the letters that were sent,  and this started to make him worry even more.  What if Jay had read his letters and was under the impression he was some kind of psycho?  What if Jay had read bits of them and then thrown them away?  What if he just plain forgot in general?

Paul,  one of his roommates stopped by to try and cheer him up a little.  He greeted Nathan as he walked over to where he was.   He was one of those friends that was always there for him no matter what.

"Hey Nate,   how's it going?"

"Awful."

"Why is that?"

"Well I don't think that Jay Leno will ever answer my letters.  I know he's a busy man and all but still,  i'm worried.  I worry a whole lot.   I mean what if he has read bits of them and thrown them away?  What if he has read them and thinks of me as some kind of psycho? What if he's under the wrong impression of me?  What if he's just forgotten?"

"I'm pretty sure Leno will get around to answering your letters,  just give it time."

"I have been giving it time...nothing's happened yet."

"I'm sure something will happen eventually.."

"I don't know...I feel real bad about the recent letters i've sent him.  I mean I don't hate Leno at all,  I LOVE him -  it's just I doubt that he'll ever answer my letters that's all.  I mean I don't hate Jay Leno just because society says I have to."

"Hang in there,  man...hang in there.."

He sighed a little as Paul left the room,   thinking to himself about what Paul had said,  he then look an glance over at his library of books to see if he could find something that could be of some use to him.  On the shelf were various supernatural books and issues of Fangoria that he had been collecting,   but the one book he had his heart set on was Leno's autobiography Leading With My Chin.

He picked the book out from the shelf and started reading it,  and as he did -  he started getting an idea,  and this was a very good idea indeed.   He thought to himself as he read the book,  memorizing the entire thing in his mind over and over.   Reading it brought back such warm and calming memories,  and even encouraged him.

"Paul's right.  I mustn't give up.  After all...Leno never gave up,  now did he?  Of course not,  he never gave up at all.  He worked so hard to get where he is today.  And It's times like this that makes me wonder...what would Leno do?"

Immediately he began to feel a lot better and he decided that giving up wasn't the right way to go about this situation,  after all -   Jay never gave up when times were tough and - neither was he,  quitting was not an option for him at all.    And like Jay he knew that there would be obstacles along the way.

He decided to past the time he had spent waiting for the letters to be answered,  he listened to his favorite songs,  watched the Simpsons and added new photos of Jay to his Tribute to Jay Leno pinterest gallery before going to have a glass of water.   At around 7:30 pm to 8:50 pm,  he decided to order himself dinner from the Big Kahuna Burger joint across town, ordering a special diet combo meal.

After dinner,  he decided to work on his latest monster story which was going to prove his haters wrong and that he could do more than just what they deemed as 'revenge' stories, he knew that whenever someone like that said anything bad about his stories like for example saying they have no resemblings to or pretensions of being arty or if they asked too many questions and complained too much - that people like that should never be taken seriously, besides...everyone knew that his stories weren't always supernatural revenge stories,  he decided to make this next story a more light-hearted story about his close friend Jack - who was a devoted horror fan,   this story was going to be about Jack hearing about a club for monsters of all kinds where you could become a monster as well -  and in the story,  he was going to have him become something akin to a vampire since Jack's dream was to be a vampire.  At around 9:15 pm to 10:32 pm he finished the story and then decided to look at a Fangoria article about actress Linnea Quigley.

At around 10:32 to 11:13 pm he decided to watch a mini-marathon of Stephen King movies including Sleepwalkers,   and he then went to the lab to gather some DNA samples from his monster hunting adventures and organize his monster profiles by species before having an oat biscuit for dessert.  After working on his dream journal,  he headed to his room,  had a quick shower.

Around 11:13 pm to 11:21 pm he got in the shower and relaxed for a while as he cleaned himself up in addition to washing his hair.   At 11:25 pm he finished his quick shower and brushed his teeth before spending a few more moments adding to his pinterest galleries and talking to friends on Facebook.    I know what you're thinking...where the hell is the weird stuff?  Where the hell is the transformation?  Where are the monsters?  When is the supernatural twist going to kick in?

Well...at around 11:21 to 11:25 pm,  his supernatural sense started acting up -  even though there weren't any monsters around for miles...he could sense that something supernatural was going on,   he ran over to the bookshelf for a minute,  checking to see if one of the books had somehow been opened.   Luckily none of the monster guidebooks or any of the other books were affected.

Around 11:25 pm to 11:30 pm,  that's when the supernatural sense acted up even more as slowly but surely,  all around him the background shifted into that of a garage that filled itself up with all sorts of awesomely designed vintage cars and motorcycles,  without taking a second glance - he knew instantly that it was Jay's garage.    He couldn't believe his eyes,  there he was - in Jay's garage.

"Oh my god...this is unbelievable! I'm in Jay's garage.  It's like i've died and gone to automobile heaven.  So many cars...can't wait to drive all of them and show them off and share them with others! Wait...did I really just say that?"

It was then at around 11:30 pm that things started getting stranger,  he suddenly began to feel more himself becoming calmer and much more cheerful in nature and as if in an instant, he remembered the name of every single car and motorcycle in the garage.  He didn't know how or why,  but he just did.  It was then when 11:35 pm came around then more changes started happening.

The changes started with the light blue shirt he was wearing slowly morphing and reshaping itself into a black and grey shirt that was a slick button up shirt,  in the process his dark grey pants slowly shifted themselves into a pair of jeans and developed a denim texture as his body started to bulk up a bit,  not exactly fat,  not exactly buff but quite normal and average for someone like him as he gained 180lbs,  he had a fair amount of muscle too.

In the process his skin slowly lost its imperfections as his night-slippers slowly morphed into a pair of black shoes that looked rather fashionable,  normally he would be freaking out about this but this kind of transformation wasn't remotely terrifying,  in fact it seemed sort of natural to him.   He also felt himself stretch as he slowly elevated in height to 5'11.  Getting a hand-held mirror out of his pocket he decided to take a look at himself.

"Oh wow! I'm the same height as Jay now...and i'm wearing his clothes.  This is so sudden, I should be shocked and mortified...but yet...i'm not.  In a way this kind of feels natural.  I like this a whole lot!"

He felt somewhat happier and giddier despite the fact he was undergoing another transformation,   it may have been his changing mindset or it may have been something else entirely but he was starting to think a lot clearer,  for one thing he was remembering a lot of the things that were mentioned in Leading With My Chin,   and as if by magic - he felt as if those things had happened to him as well.   This was due to new thoughts and memories influencing him in numerous ways.   He relaxed his much broader shoulders as he witnessed the rest of the transformation occurring.

His hair slowly turned from brown to blackish with a few silver streaks as his eyebrows turned black and thickened a little but not too much,  he raised them a little to do a pseudo eyebrow raise of sorts as his eyes widened,  turning from hazel to a shade of pure blue as small eyelashes materialized around them.   He now possessed a pair of beautiful and very innocent looking blue eyes.   In the process his head shape shifted to a more rounded one as his facial features slowly but surely altered in appearance and form,  shifting from his own features into a familiar set of facial features he knew a lot about.

From what he could see - he could tell he was looking a LOT like Jay himself, in fact at this point he was being influenced by Jay's memories and thoughts and thinking a lot like him too,  he didn't mind this though,  because he knew that somehow...just somehow,  this was how he was supposed to look.   His lips pinkened a little but they didn't shrink that much,  they just remained the same.   In the process his jaw-line slowly altered itself to become more pronounced and distinguished.

"I stand incorrected...i'm not just his height and wearing his clothes,  i'm becoming Jay! Wow...I can honestly say that out of all the transformations i've undergone...I was not expecting this at all,  I wasn't.   And yet i'm fine with it...because it's...me,  or at least I think it's me."

He felt a tingling sensation in his lower jaw as his chin slowly elongated and stretched, jutting out slightly and reshaping itself until it resembled Jay's chin,  in fact you could say now that he certainly resembled Jay more than he did his old self,   and yet he felt this was how he was supposed to look.  True,  he had considered fixing his chin but why fix it anyway?  That chin was perfect and it suited his larger than life persona.

His personality altered to become more like Jay's personality as his voice raised itself to become a little higher but not too high-pitched,  also develop a deeper tone in some parts and giving him a very warm and playful tone in general.    The thoughts and memories from earlier influenced him further as his transformation completed itself,  in place of Nathan - there was now comedian Jay Leno,  looking exactly as he did on the cover of his own book Leading With My Chin.

Jay made his way towards the desk,  and that's where he came across the letters he had been sent.   He began to feel awful about not answering them,  so he decided to send a reply to the first letter back,  telling Nathan it was going to be alright.   He smiled slightly as he picked up the book and then took a look at himself in the mirror.

"Wow...looking handsome tonight,  as usual.  And also as usual,  my chin is my best feature. I couldn't imagine trading this baby for anything in the whole universe.   And I know that my friend Nathan is going to appreciate the reply to the letter I sent him."

He admired his car and motorbike collection for a few hours,  dusting off a few of the ones that hadn't been used in a while,  before carefully counting them all and listening to a few tunes on the radio.   He hummed along to the songs on the radio before standing next to one the many cars in his collection.    A few seconds later,  Paul walked by and was surprised by what he saw.

"Woah...where the heck did this garage come from?"

"That garage is mine,  hi there..."

"Woah! Jay Leno?  You live here now?"

"Technically this garage has always been here,  it's in my house after all.   This is where I keep my cars and motorbikes -  to which I have quite a lot.  I could never exactly count how many of them I have though.."

"They're very impressive..."

"Why,  yes -  they're certainly are.  And check out this one here, it's quite a powerful little bad boy. Quite agile and I also hear it's death-proof."

"Say....this may seem like a silly question to ask,  but did you ever answer the letters my friend sent you?  He's been feeling kind of awful about what he said in some of them and I was wondering if you could make things better."

"You mean Nathan?  Yeah...I know him.  I apologize for not replying to the letter sooner,  I originally meant to do it prior to this but you know i'm a very busy man.  I can't do everything at once you know."

"So...did you answer them?"

"Yes...and I accept both your apology and Nathan's too.  I would never do anything to break a fan's heart,  I don't have a mean bone in my body.   I hope that this fixes things and that we can be friends -  if not friends,  maybe pen-pals."

Jay handed Paul the letter and Paul placed it in an envelope before sending it through Nathan's mailbox,  he smiled and chuckled to himself before going back to work in the garage.   Paul left soon after to go and do his job as the neighborhood watch-man,  while Jay continued to work in the garage.

And with that -  Jay spent the rest of the night in the garage polishing his car collection before dozing off peacefully for a few hours,  he slept soundly knowing that he had done a very kind deed to someone who deserved it.

As for what happened the next day -  ol Nathan was glad to see there was a letter from Jay in response to those letters from before and his heart was filled with joy,  knowing that his favorite comedian hadn't forgotten him.   From then on,   he got a double surprise,  for every night from then at 11:35 pm he would become Jay and get to spend the night as him - as a bonus,  he even got to keep the car and motorbike collection and could visit the garage anytime he wanted.

And thus brings us to the end of this story but the adventures for our hero carried out and they always will.   It's a long way up to the top but like Jay,  he never gave up and he never lost hope.   Also tonight's moral is that not all stories of the supernatural variety are about revenge,  sometimes it's good to tell more light-hearted stories like this one for example.
