Hessian Hex part 4

------------------------------------------
When Ariana returned from her search at the research lab, she was in for quite for a shock as she saw Joseph (one of my dearest friends) lying on the ground dead with his head snapped clean off.

"What the hell happened here?"

"I don't know...one minute I had my instincts under control, the next I start getting all bloodlusty and poor Joseph here became minus a head."

"Oh no...don't tell me it's getting worse."

"What do you mean getting worse? I feel fine."

Just as I said that my skin turned pale as my clothes turned black as well as my hair turning black, shadows beginning to creep up on me once again.

"It's just as I feared, it is getting worse. You're looking more like the Hessian now."

"I am perfectly fine. And besides...I don't feel like killing anyone. Although the sound of a head spinning off one's body is music to my ears. Wait...no it isn't, snap out of it!"

"That's better."

"So what are we going to do about this?"

"Maybe we can just go to the alchemist."

"I'm pretty sure Morgoth will have the answers we need."

I calmed down and as I did my skin turned back to it's normal colour and my hair turned back to being brown and my clothes returned to normal as the shadows disappeared.
The one place that both me and Ariana knew we could get answers from was the local alchemists.

Luckily there was one near the library, and once we got there Ariana went up to the counter and rang the bell.

Morgoth answered it, he resembled Alice Cooper and sounded like him as well - he was the most well known expert on all things supernatural being that he was the owner of the Scaretorium and all.

"May I help you?"

"Something's happening to Nathan. And it's supernatural."

"Let me guess...he's got a case of Werechicken Pox?"

"No. It's not that. He turned pale and his clothes and hair turned black."

"Oh he's just going through what is commonly known as a 'goth' phase. It will wear off."

"No it's worse than that - his teeth sharpened and he developed feelings of bloodlust."

"He didn't get bitten by a vampire did he?"

"No it's even worse - he's growled at me more than a few times."

"What kind of growl are we talking here? Are we talking werecreature type growl, grinch growl, heavy metal death growl, or something much more sinister?"

"It sounded a bit like this......HAAAAAAAA! RAAAAAR!"

Ariana demonstrated, doing an impersonation of the Hessian's famous growls, baring her teeth as she was doing it.

"Oh no....don't tell me....he's turning into the Hessian Horseman."

"Unfortunately...he is."

"Oh no! This is horrible, but awesome. I'm afraid I can't think of anything that can be used as a cure at the moment."

"What? You've got to think of something."

"I am...it's just I am unusure if any of the vials I have here would do the trick. I'll have to check the inventory."

"Good. You do that, Morgoth."

"AAAW COME ON. YOU GUYS ARE TREATING ME LIKE I HAVE SOME KIND OF CONTAGIOUS DISEASE OR SOMEONE WHO IS ABOUT TO TURN INTO A WERECREATURE RATHER THAN SOMEONE WITH A CONDITION THAT WITH THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF CARE CAN LIVE A NORMAL HEALTHY LIFE! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!"

I snarled and this time as the shadows crept up on me and my clothes turned black, looking a bit more like the Hessian's attire and less like my own, my eyebrows arching and becoming more menacing as they too turned black. My teeth sharpened and lengthened until they looked a bit more Hessian-like.

"Nathan, calm down. You're really scaring me now."

I calmed down and returned to normal as I turned to her and gave her an apologenic look.

"I'm sorry, i'm sorry."

"It's okay...we're here for you."

"Man you were right, this is getting worse. Morgoth...what would do you in this situation?"

"Beats me. I've tried everything, but there's nothing in the inventory."

"Oh well...thanks anyway."

"No problem."

"Come on, Nathan. Let's go!"

"I'll be right there."

With that the two of us left the alchemist and ran off back over to the inn to go and think things through.

It was a lot worse than I thought, I was starting to turn more and more like the Hessian each time I got into a vicious mood and Ariana was just as concerned as I was....I asusred her that everything would be alright, but I knew that deep down she was worried about me.

"Nathan....those Hessian instincts are getting harder to control by the minute. If you're not careful you could turn and end up attacking someone, or worse - killing them."

"I know, but rest assured - it's going to be alright..."

"No it's not, this is seriously scary. I've never had a friend turn against me before."

"Maybe this whole Hessian thing won't be so bad. After all - how many people can say that they have the Hessian Horseman for a companion?"

"Well...to be honest, none - considering the majority of those people got killed and had their heads cut off."

"I know, I know."

"We will find a way to fix this, believe me."

"I hope so because I wouldn't want something like this getting in the way of our friendship."

"Don't worry...we'll be fine. Just don't go hacking people's heads off."

"Aaaw thank you."

I hugged her for a few brief seconds before regaining my compolsure and turning around to check if anyone else was around, so far so good - most of the townspeople were probably busy or had locked up for the night.

Ariana really was right, this whole Hessian thing was really starting to take over me and the more it did, the harder it was to resist.

I didn't know what to do, if there wasn't a way to fix this I would unfortunately be at the risk of turning and going all Hessian berserker mode and seriously killing some innocent people.

-----------------------------------
With the changes progressing further...will our hero find a way to reverse the affects of the spell before it's too late? Or he will go full blown Hessian and go on a killing spree?

Find out in part 5.
