Hessian Hex part 3

That night we were in the research building looking through various books about magic to see if there was a spell to use that could serve as the cure for what was happening to me.

I had dabbled in the dark arts before but with results that were less than stellar, and I wouldn't want to risk accidentally causing supernatural paranoia to break out.

"Anything?"

"Well let's see...there's spells to turn people into animals, spells to raise the dead, spells to turn oneself into a werecreature, spells to turn people into zombies... ah ha! Soul Transferance/Hessian Hex spell."

"What does it say?"

"It says that the effects tend to be very slow and gradual - and unfortunately....are un-reversible."

"Unreversible? You gotta be kidding me."

"That's what it says. Only white magic spells can reverse it, and unfortunately I am no white mage."

"Oh."

"But don't you worry, there's gotta be something we can do. You know before it's too late and you end up going full Hessian and start hacking people's head off as if they were a turkey on Thankskilling - I mean thanksgiving night."

"You're right, but the problem is...what if it actually happens before we can figure out a way to fix this? What if I turn and I attack you?"

"You wouldn't turn against me, like I said you're not entirely bloodthirsty - yet. But you've got to keep those instincts and urges under control, or it will worsen. There's just got to be someway to reverse this and make you normal before it's too late."

"NORMAL? NORMAL? WHO SAID I WANT TO BE NORMAL AGAIN? NOT ME. MAYBE I LIKE THE IDEA OF BEING A BLOODTHIRSTY HESSIAN WARRIOR, AND HAVING SHARP TEETH AND SLASHING PEOPLE'S HEADS OFF!"

I snarled, and as I did my eyes turned that eerie shade of blue again as my hair turned jet black as the shadows began creeping up.

"Calm down, calm down. You're starting to scare me!"

"Sorry...it's just I don't know what came over me."

"I know...man these instincts are getting harder to control by the minute."

"Hang in there....we can get through this."

My eyes turned back to their normal colour as my hair turned back to being brown again, I gave a sigh of relief as the shadows faded.

"Phew. Man...that was terrifying."

"It sure was. I'm glad you've calmed down."

"I know, me too."

"Those Hessian urges and instincts are pretty dangerous and not to mention scary, if you keep them under control though we shall have no problems at all."

"What if people question this and ask why i've suddenly got blue eyes, black hair, and razor sharp teeth and bloodlust on the brain?"

"You could always say that you've got a fever and the only presciption for it is more cowbell!"

"Ha ha, hillarious."

"I know...I couldn't resist."

"You know what I can't resist? I can't resist the thought of all the carnage and destruction i'll cause once i've fully turned into the Hessian. It just sounds invigorating!"

"Nathan. There's nothing invigorating about that. You'd be charged with death threats if you're not careful."

"At least i'm not at risk of being burned at the stake like in the old days. And besides being the Hessian could actually be kinda fun. I could scare people all I want and no one would be able to yell at me for it. And I could get away with murder and not get arrested."

"Sure you're saying that now, but once it actually happens...you won't be thinking that."

"Man, you're right. I'm so sorry, this whole Hessian thing has got me starting to not only think like him but also to look like him. This is seriously frightening. What are we going to do?"

"Relax, keep those instincts under control - i'll go and see if there is a way to fix this. Stay here, and please try not to kill anyone or cut their heads off."

"But where's the fun in that? Grrrrrr...., oops...sorry."

"It's alright. Just stay calm."

With that Ariana left to go and into one of the other rooms to check and see if there was any way to reverse the spell.

"'Try not to kill anyone', hmmm? Oh well...I said that I would try to keep my instincts under control, but...maybe...I should just accept this and embrace it....perhaps it is a time for a little bit of Hessian headhunting...grrrrr..."

I snarled once again and as I did my eyes turned a ghostly shade of aquamarine blue and my teeth lengthened and sharpened becoming almost vampiric but also resembled the Hessian's teeth a little more.

It was too tempting to resist, the bloodlust building up inside was just flowing through me like well - blood. And this may have just been the Hessian instincts kicking in slowly, but to me this whole thing really wasn't so bad.

"Gah! What the hell am I saying? Nathan...you're a scientist, not a bloodthirsty Hessian warrior. And no matter how tempting it may be...I would never kill anyone EVER."

My teeth and eyes returned to normal as I calmed down a little and thought for a second. What if this was something more powerful than any other supernatural curse I would be placed under? What if this was far scarier than I imagined? And what if I would end up actually liking it?

I regained my compulsure as I looked around, luckily the spell's effects will slow and gradual and if I kept my instincts under control, then it wouldn't be much of a problem.

Whatever the case may be...I was not only growing more concerned for myself but also for Ariana and the others, for she knew that I would probably snap at any minute.

Will our hero learn to control his more bloodthirsty instincts? Or will he give in and go full blown Hessian and try to go on a rampage?

Find out in part 4.
