 Ghouls Of The Past

To say Jacobus Anderson was a blockoholic online would be an understatement, he basically blocked anyone who harassed his friends only to tell his other friends to block said person back, even if what happened that resulted in it happening in the first place happened two years ago, there was no reasoning with him and his friends, and this isn’t one of those thinly veiled revenge fantasy fics either, this is a fic in which the character is as detestable as possible. Jacobus was definitely the type to abuse a blocking spell for that purpose, ‘block this guy..he harassed my friends’ ‘dude, that happened two years ago, move on.’ ‘He’ll just write another fic about someone that’s supposed to be you being killed off’ is basically how every conversation regarding this issue goes and even then, the person who basically attacked them had moved on. He wasn’t content with convincing just one person to do it, he tried to get all of his friends to do it…it’s just that he didn’t realize the consequences of it. One night while he was online and waiting for a game he wanted, he saw the screen glowing a blood red color as a black vortex opened in the middle of the screen, pulling him through it and into a virtual graveyard, that’s when he realized…’oh shit, I shouldn’t have dug up something that happened two years ago.’ ‘Damn right, you shouldn’t have.’

Jacobus turned around and he saw what appeared to be a female ghoul standing right beside him, the ghoul looked like a half undead Helena Bonham Carter. ‘Excuse me, where am I?’ ‘The virtual graveyard, where drama and the like that happened more than a year ago gets buried and put to rest and I believe it’s your time.’ ‘Mine?’ ‘Oh yes, you see…by doing what you did, you very much dig up something from 2 years ago that the person that was responsible for has moved on from, you know if you keep up with these ways you are going to suffer for it big time, you can’t keep up the blocking game forever.’ ‘I can..’ ‘Look, i’m not here to argue, look for yourself.’ A mirror-like reflective surface uncovered itself from one of the tombstones, looking into it he saw his reflection, first appearing youthful and good looking but then become more mottled and grotesque and undead-looking.

“How are you doing that?”

‘I’m the one person that you cannot block, yourself.’ the reflection responded in an eerie, cryptic fashion. ‘You can block as many people as you like, but you cannot block yourself. You see, nobody believes you apart from your dumb friends and it’s not like you can do anything about it, because you’ll be stuck here forever if you do.’

His half-undead reflection mocked him for his inability to let things go, also pointing out that he was being a bad influence on his friends and that digging up things from the past only results in more of his kind being brought back to life. ‘These ghouls here beg to be taken to the big cyberpalace in the sky, but unfortunately are bound to live here forever due to people digging up the past and refusing to move on. Such as you. Yes, you were harassed and so were your friends, but hanging onto that isn’t helping your case.’

“Hey..i’m stubborn, I can’t help it.”

The 33 year old protested, as his reflection toyed with his messy dark brown hair. ‘You sure are, sometimes I wonder why you even bother being you sometimes.’ ‘But aren’t you supposed to be me?’ ‘Yes, but even I cannot stand you sometimes.’ ‘I know but what can I do?’ ‘How about this? I can fix you and make you better only if you promise not to be the way you are again, how does that sound?’ ‘You better not be conning me.’ ‘Now why would I con you, i’m you after all and conning myself would be ridiculous…have we got a deal?’

“Yes…”

“Good, because here we go.”

The reflection emerged to shake his hand and as he did, Jacobus’s hands slowly shrank down a couple of sizes as his fingernails lengthened and his skin lost imperfections, he looked at his hands for a minute and grasped his chest as it slimmed down and a pair of formations known as breasts developed on them, his arms shrank down in the same way his arms had while his clothes contorted to fit his changing body, his stomach slimmed while his back arched and his torso contorted to match his chest. He felt a dark presence leave his body as his legs contorted and his feet went in the same way as his hands, his hips flared out while his privates contorted, he examined himself for a little bit. “So that’s what was making me block all those people.’ ‘Yes, you had a dark voice demon inside you telling you not to trust anyone and that’s why you dug up the past.’

“Do all people like this have one?’

“Yes.”

He watched as the demon that had influenced him was finally vanquished, and he felt better as his shoulders shrank inward as his hair elongated, turning from brown to blonde as his eyebrows thinned and his eyes widened, eyelashes blossoming around them as his features feminized, his nose shrank and his lips plumped up, his features contorting themselves into a young Renee Zwelleger’s as his voice altered too, becoming womanly and adorable to go with is appearance, a couple of minutes later his mind and personality followed, and he or ‘she’ remembered, she was Jenny, the female lead from Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation.

Jenny looked over and blushed as her transformation finished, the ghoul that represented the drama from 2 year agos began to levitate as he was taken up to cyber-heaven, returning to how he was prior to becoming what he was, he had finally been put to rest. “It is done, see..I told you that I wouldn’t con you like that.’ ‘Of course you wouldn’t, you said conning myself would be ridiculous and that of course would never happen.’ ‘I have officially moved on now, I realize starting all this was wrong.’ ‘Now you can start all over again.’

“True..but how do we do that?’

“You can start by sending an apology spell to your friends.”

She nodded before casting an apology spell towards the direction of her friends which broke them free of her previous self’s influence, she definitely thought they could have used someone better than what they had gotten and also she set out to make sure no ghouls ever came back to life as a designated survivor, it was her job to do just that. She had turned over a new leaf, and was a better woman for it. And thus brings us to the ending, now this ending is definitely a lot happier, since it wasn’t a punishment and she could visit the graveyard anytime she wanted and was hired later on to be part of a certain koala-girl’s team of monster hunters and she definitely made a living out of that.

As for what happened later, the ghouls of the past could rest easy at night knowing that there was no one left to dig them up back up and some looked forward to going to cyber-heaven, and thus brings us to the lesson of the story, blocking people is fine…just don’t go telling others to do it based on something that the person you have blocked has since forgotten about, digging up things that are more than a year old has dire consequences, maybe you should ask your reflection how they feel about it…after all, the one person you cannot block is yourself.
