Role Of A Lifetime
Role Of A Lifetime
Jareth (Labyrinth) TF W/MC
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sometimes when it comes to acting there are rare opportunities where an actor/actress gets to show their true colors and this is one of mine. How did this one start, you ask? It started as just a dream/vision, but little did I know that the vision would actually come true. It was a dream about being in a musical theater group with my friends but this was more than your typical theater group experience, as we were planning out ideas for the next play/production one of my dearest friends found a book that had the word 'Labyrinth' written on the front, it appeared to be some kind of screenplay. I picked up the screenplay and started reading some of the lines, but I immediately was taken by surprise when something emerged from the inside of the costume box after I had just bumped into it, that something was a spirit that took on humanoid form and that spirit was one that greatly resembled the villain from the movie that shared the same name as the script.
"Hello, Nathan..."
"Uh, hello there. I didn't mean to awake you or anything."
"Oh no, i'm not mad at you."
"You're not? But I assume you would be since you have suddenly risen because I bumped into the box you lived in."
"Far from it....let's just say that I am grateful that you have set me free. And I am willing to do anything to help you. The name is Jareth by the way. I know a lot about you, and I know you are a huge fan of the movie I come from."
"You mean you're THE Jareth? As in the goblin king himself?"
"Why yes, I am."
"No way...this can't be true or even remotely real. I mean you're the character from the movie? But that's not possible."
Jareth's spirit looked at me, I was astounded by this as at first I had thought that Jareth was a fictional character and that he wasn't real, but this being the monster world and everything I guess anything is possible. He explained to me that he had been watching over me and the rest of the theater crew and that he knew that I would pick up the script, knowing that I was a huge fan of the movie. I really wanted to have a go at reacting it but in all my theater experience I had never gotten the chance to take part in a play as a leading role before, or even as a villain for that matter....I had always been stuck playing a second banana supporting role or just a character who is a minor minion or sidekick who dies. I looked over at the screenplay, going over the lines.
"Oh yes it is...it is extremely true."
"How did you know that I work in theater?"
"Oh, that's my little secret."
"I just wish that one day someone would give me a chance to play a leading role or play as a villain instead of the usual supporting role that I get stuck playing over and over. Playing minion/soldier number 5 in that one play wasn't exactly what I meant and I really want to play a role that suits me. This screenplay I picked up seems like the kind of thing I would be a cast member in if it was a real play or anything of the sort."
"I can help you with that...I just need a little something from you..."
"What would that be?"
"Well...I need to use your body for this to work but I think this may come in handy for both of us."
"Does this mean you're going to possess me?"
He nodded as he became transparent before diving down my throat, making me cough a few times. Of course this didn't bother me much but then I heard his voice in my head, his voice conditioning me and improving my acting range and also my vocal range too but that wasn't all. My skin slowly began to lose all imperfections and become a bit pale as my torso, chest, and torso slimmed down along with my stomach. My arms and hands changed as my clothing slowly changed into an exact replica of Jareth's black outfit from his first appearance in the movie while my fingers grew a bit longer and my legs lengthened, supernatural energy jolted through my body as my feet changed to go with my hands. The cloak/cape from the outfit was what formed from my cardigan as my shoulders and back lengthened and I slowly grew in height to 5'10 as my neckline altered, on the inside my mind was changing...making me think that this was natural and this was part of the role. My hair slowly turning from brown to blonde as it became wild-looking, my eyebrows thinned a little bit as white makeup applied itself around my eyes that made them look like they resembled owl eyes as my eyes widened and turned a hypnotic shade of blue, black eyeliner also applying itself around the eyes as my nose resculpted itself and my lips altered to become a bit more kissable, my teeth sharpened quite a bit as my cheekbones also sharpened.
A couple of seconds later, my face slowly morphed itself into that of the character...which was to say I now resembled Jareth, my voice altered several times as it roughened and yet smoothened, developing an English accent and also matching my appearance...I now looked and sounded exactly like Jareth, which is to say I sounded and looked more like Bowie than I did myself, my mind shifted several times as my thoughts and memories altered, making him think I had always been like this and that I was the Goblin King...which at this point I was, as traces of my normal self vanished and 'Jareth' took over, completing the process. I examined the script and read the lines that were mine as a devious smile come across my face.
"Ah, yes...perfect."
"Are you alright?"
"Oh, i'm fine...thank you so very much for asking.."
"But...where's Nathan?"
"Uhhhh...he used to be here but not anymore. Which is to say the old me is gone and i'm Jareth now."
"Jareth? As in the character from Labyrinth?"
"Why yes, I am."
"If you're really him...prove it."
"Very well...challenge accepted."
And thus with that I chuckled to myself as I shot out some magical energy attacks and hypnotized people that were nearby into breaking out into a rendition of Magic Dance while I cast a couple of extra spells and swirled around the crystal ball I had acquired, I watched my friends as they started to break out into song as well, soon it didn't take long for them to believe I was in fact the character Jareth and not the person I had previously been.
As for what happened to me later, I discovered methods of combining my powers with my newly developed acting skills to win people over and put them under my spell - making them become entranced by me and they became my followers. After all, a goblin king does need followers you know and luckily for me i've got the best ones I could ever think of. I guess it really goes to show you, sometimes you do get the role you want after all...all it takes is a little magic.
