Piff Presents A Dire Beginning (a Piff’s Perspective story)
NOTE: Because I did not feel this would warrant a story and I felt like if I tried to make an adventure where the characters spend almost a whole day at Belmont it would be a boring adventure, I decided to let my pufferfish Piff narrate and tell the story. See at the end for the author’s notes.
-------------------------------------
Hi humans and sea-creatures of all species, Piff here…and it’s time for another Piff’s perspective story and the reason why i’m doing this story instead of my owner and telling it from my perspective is because my owner did not like the experience this story is based on and as such thought that it would be not much of an adventure if she described that all we did was sit around at Belmont until 5 o clock in the afternoon so she asked me, ‘Piffy, since you’re my favorite and funniest fish in the whole universe, could you help by doing this adventure in story form for me while I recover from the draining experience I had that this story is based on?’ to which I said…’Sure, favorite owner. I can clearly tell you’d think that Belmont would make for a lousy setting for an adventure so i’m going to lend a fin and help’ and here I am.
Now let’s begin, this episode began on the 27th of May and Mel had been told prior that she had to get up earlier (no problem for her i’m sure, after all, my owner is the best at being an early build) and so had the rest of us, we all got up and we had a nice warm shower and we had picked an outfit for Mel using the clothes that were worn a day prior (a great way to save on washing) and we got everything ready, we had breakfast but the major issue was well we had to leave the house.
Why did we leave to have…was it pests, a planned activity/event, oh no…it was that the beloved bathroom that is next door to my owner’s bedroom was in poor shape and needed a repair, it was stated that this needed 2 weeks of working and that’s understandable because there were humans called ‘workers’ coming to get rid of it and work on making a brand new bathroom.
The issue was that this required us to be out of the beloved house my owner calls her home and it’s a major disruption to the routine, and of course since we couldn’t go anywhere else (or at least I think we could) we had to all go to our neighbors in Belmont. Now I don’t know why my owner had an issue with this, all I know is that she had a bad experience there when she had to stay the night there and that was before I joined the cast, maybe she’s afraid of being locked in there again, I keep hearing her muttering to the other gang members about it being a ‘boring’ place, when that’s ridiculous, that place is fun.
That morning we all had to get in the van along with Hyacinth and head all the way to Belmont, Mel was feeling feelings of dread as she looked at me, I tried to soothe her and help her get better, I tried to but she kept worrying and worrying (silly Mel, don’t you know that you will be safer with me around?) but luckily she was able to calm down thanks to my suggestion of doing some magical coloring with that fish coloring book of hers.
So after doing some coloring and checking out some videos of me on the tv (I look good on the big screen, don’t ya think?) we all headed outside and got into the floating van and headed all the way to Belmont, upon arriving at Belmont, everything seemed fine, everyone was in good spirits and it seemed alright.
We all sat down as Hyacinth sat with us and we played for a couple of hours and used some magic to create some fun things to play with, and we even had lunch before Hyacinth had to recharge herself and we went for a short walk into the garden and around to where the park was. Everything seemed normal but I noticed my beloved owner i.e Mel was not adjusting well to this, it was not bad enough that she had to wake up early (which was nothing for my owner, of course) but now she had to spend several hours with us here in Belmont.
Now this shouldn’t be a problem, right, I mean Mel comes here with her friends sometimes and sometimes it’s just a short little detour, it cannot be positively be mind-numbingly bad - well unfortunately it took a turn, and a really bad turn….she tried to stay awake but she felt like her energy was being depleted, like some otherworldly force was trying to make her tired during the day.
She felt like the place itself was acting like some kind of creature that drained the life out of those who enter it, and given how tired the residents of that place tended to look I can see where she gets that idea from, I mean if I had to sit there all day looking up at the strange light that keeps guiding the room, i’d go mad too. Mel panted and panicked, she thought she could get through it, she thought she could. ‘Beloved owner of mine, you cannot keep letting this place get you down. I know you had a bad experience with this place but you can’t keep being dour and sad about being stuck here.’ ‘But what if it lasts more than two weeks?’ ‘Oh that’s just silly, the good humans working on the bathroom said it would take two weeks.’
‘Yeah and it’s only from 10 in the morning to five o clock.’ ‘Which is not at all lengthy in terms of hours.’ ‘Exactly.’ ‘But it feels like a whole day is slipping by in this place, this feels like a slow burn death in a horror movie. Like whatever is waiting to claim me is trying to make me as weak as possible so it’s easier to kill me.’ ‘Silly owner, you’re just being paranoid.’ ‘Maybe I have a right to be afraid, you know.’ ‘It’s not that scary.’
‘This is basically like being stuck in a horror movie where the creature takes his time stalking his prey and it’s all slow burn in terms of build-up.’ ‘Oh you and your horror movie scenarios, those aren’t going to happen here. Because even if it did we would defend you and help you to overcome the monster. ‘ ‘Exactly.’ ‘Besides, I remember Peanut’s beloved owner Rachel comparing Rachel’s cute dog to a horror movie character.’
‘That’s because there was a horror movie about a killer dog that came out in 1983, it was based on a Stephen King novel.’ ‘Oh you mean Cujo?’ ‘Yes, that story.’ ‘But that’s mostly not true, right?’ ‘I guess so.’ Mel tried to keep herself from tiring out but between the other residents already giving off the vibe of looking like the ‘creature’ had drained their lifeforce and the light on the wall, she was already starting to feel like she was being drained.
She started to hallucinate…as she was known to do in situations like this, she hallucinated herself being trapped in the Belmont house and she saw the residents as mindless undead beings under the control of the being that was watching over them, I tried to get her to snap out of this but she couldn’t, all she could think about it was that.
I saw what appeared to be some kind of strange demonic creature emerging from the walls with glowing blood red eyes, the creature reached towards Mel and sank its teeth into the nape of her neck, causing her to be drained of her energy and her powers…as her body began to convulse and reform, her fingernails growing longer and sharper looking as her hair grew messier, there were several disconcerting snapping noises as her body expanded with muscle and two black wings slowly tore out of her shoulder blades in a grotesque fashion, oops sorry for scaring you guys with this I know this scares Mel, but don’t worry, this isn’t real. ‘Ugh help me, guys.’ ‘You can do it Mel.’ She let out pained screams of agony as her teeth sharpened and her voice deepened, sounding nothing like she normally would. Sorry for the scary sounds by the way, I activated a horror sound effects spell by accident while she started having this hallucination, I was trying to find soothing ocean mood spells in the spellbook when I accidentally said the wrong spell. ‘Piff, this isn’t helping to soothe me, it’s only making me worse!’ ‘Oh no did I use the wrong spell? I was supposed to use a soothing ocean sounds spell, but…’ ‘What did you do, Piffy?’ ‘I accidentally read the wrong spell and activated a horror sound effect spell instead.’ ‘Piffy.’ ‘I’m sorry guys.’
She hissed and let out a piercing screech as her grotesque transformation had finished, as she had become the ‘monster’ again, this always happened with her due to her powers, due to having uncontrollable transformation powers at times, this always seemed to be a recurring thing, luckily though…she snapped out of it, and woke up, she woke up out of the hallucination, and everything was back to normal.
‘I’m sorry I couldn’t keep myself from hallucinating all that. And for that grotesque transformation you just had to see me imagine me in my head.’ ‘That’s alright favorite owner, I know that transformation was not real and as for the discomforting sounds, I am sorry for those. I just wanted to make Mel happy and I tried to find a soothing ocean sounds spell but I accidentally read the wrong spell from the spellbook.’
‘That’s alright Piff, it’s not your fault.’ We all had some nice afternoon tea as Mel had calmed down and come to her senses, followed by a music session with Jeemo (what a fun human, he is so talented) and a dance session with Irina (of course Mel did not dance, but the rest of us did), and we all played some games while waiting.
An hour later, it was finally time for us to return home to Nile Road and it was quite the relief as we all got in the floating van and headed back to our beloved home in Nile Road, and upon arriving back at our home in Nile Road we all had a lovely time and relaxed before dinner, and for dinner - ooooh, we had some good food.
After dinner Mel emailed Jill all about the adventure we all had, explaining how she kept feeling like she was being drained, which was followed by me and Tangie going fishing and catching a lot of fish, followed by a game session and some karaoke.
Which was followed by the relaxation sessions where we did our favorite activities including imagination sessions, bathbomb sniffing, ASMR (it’s a relaxing thing some humans do on Youtube), bubbles, and of course the game no relaxation session at the end of the day is ever complete without our favorite game of ‘Guess the Bathbomb Scent’.
Corey put on his bat pajamas as Oats put on his princess night-gown and we all brushed our teeth as I used some magic to activate the closedown sequence, which this time featured the animated fish couple floating around in a colorful underwater dream portal as the background shifted from day to night and their clothes morphed into night-clothes as the goodnight message appeared on screen.
I floated into bed and kissed Tangie before giving the goodnight speech was: ‘Because my owner thought she would not be able to get an adventure out of essentially staying at Belmont, she came to me and asked me to do this episode and to try and make it interesting, which I did, of course it had some weirdness in it, but in the end it was worth it. And hey I learned how to tell the difference with sound based spells today. And now we are all going to bed, goodnight everyone.’
Anglo turned off the light as we all drifted off to sleep and had sweet dreams including me, and thus our adventure had ended but more are coming up. And I hope you all enjoyed this story and enjoyed reading about life from the perspective of a pufferfish named Piff.

NOTE:
Hi guys, it’s the author/Piff’s owner here. I am glad you all could read this with me and enjoy the story from the perspective of Piff. I mainly got Piff to do it because I could not do a whole story where half of the story takes place at Belmont and because it was such a draining experience for me I asked Piff…’Piff, since you are the bestest fish in the tank and my favorite fish, and the funniest fish in the whole universe, according to your fans at least. Would you mind doing me a favor? I am supposed to do a story based on the first day of the renovations of the brand new bathroom that is coming soon but because I cannot think of any way to do a story in which we stay at Belmont up until five in the afternoon, could you please help by doing this adventure as a story from your own unique funny fishy perspective while I recover from the draining and tiring experience?’ and Piff of course said…’Sure, favorite owner. I will do that for you. If you cannot come up with a story based on the adventure due to it being too draining for you to possibly write about, I can help by writing and narrating this story for you and do it as Piff’s Perspective bit.’
And that’s how that story came about…and hey, it worked because Piff did it a lot better than I could have, so thanks Piffy (Piff: No problem, favorite owner. Anything for Mel and the fellow members of her gang. I hope that the next part of the story will be much better.) One can only hope, Piffy, one can only hope. (Piff: A little bit of hope goes a long way), well you are right on that one. (Piff: Of course I am). So anyhow, thank you all for reading.
