WB Celeb fiction comments.

 Werebelushi:

Here is my reaction to a particular stupid comment I read on reddit, I am not going to be quote said user because I don't want them to berate me. But here are my reactions: 1. Okay so deceased celebrities and historical figures don't count to you then? Oh boy, every deceased celebrity fan out there would be pissed off to hear that. Also you do know historical figures are public domain, right?  2. I get that you don't like celebrity fiction but if a person wants to ship one celebrity with another they can. Yes I intially felt queasy when I looked at a Chevy Chase/Dan Aykroyd pairing that someone on Discord did but only because I dislike Chevy, I don't hate his movies, just Chevy as a person.  Nathan did a ton of Simon and Paula (Amercian Idol) pairing even though he wasn't the first.  Look, it's not real person porn if they ship those celebrities. I still ship Geena Davis and Jeff Goldblum even though they broke up, I know I don't ship Katy Perry and Russell Brand...actually I never did, since I didn't get why Katy liked being around him (but versions of Katy and Russell are in Forgotten Werecreatures, Katy is a werecat and Russell is an English wererabbit, a wererabbit because he was the voice of EB in Hop and also his chinese star sign is the rabbit).  It is just fiction, not real life.

4.  Uhhh...since when has THAT ever been an issue with celebrity fiction?  Celebrities get made fun of and have their likenessess put in things all the damn time, and fan fiction isn't any different. And also...yeah, i'm sorry but there are some celebs that guess what, actually freaking enjoy fiction about them.   Also yes there are cases in which a celebrity has sued someone over a character that supposedly is modelled on them like the whole Uri Geller thing with Kadabra, and cases where a celebrity who voiced a character or played a character got treated unfairly by the studio because of the studio using the celebrity in advertising i.e the Robin Williams/Disney thing over Aladdin.  Yeah, Disney pretty much screwed Robin over (although Disney is probably feeling lucky that Robin isn't around to share his opinion on the new Genie app at the parks or Will Smith replacing him). But fanfiction has never been an issue with any celebrity.

5.  The only cases in which I myself would find real person fiction or real person tfs questionable or wrong is if A: That person is/was a criminal or real life serial killer. B: A celebrity who is considered problematic by today's standards. C: A formerly nice celebrity who got outed for bad behavior. D: Sex offenders/criminals in general.  Because those to me are the most worrying.  It's okay to include Little Bill if you are doing a Nick Jr crossover story since the character isn't actually Bill Cosby just a character Cosby created, yes...I know Cosby created the show and wrote the books the show is based on,  and voices Captain Brainstorm, but Cosby himself isn't the Little Bill character since Little Bill is based on him as a kid. It's okay to include Ed Rooney in your John Hughes crossover because you can easily just separate that character and Mr Spike from Stay Tuned from the actual Jeffrey Jones. It's okay to include Hades in any Disney villain related fiction since he is just a character voiced by James Woods and not the actual James Woods (as opposed to his Family Guy and Simpsons portrayals which are fictional versions of himself).   I am just saying those are the only cases in which to me i'd find celebrity transformations to be a problem or celeb fics in general.

6. You do know that wrestlers have actual names, right?  And they don't go by their wrestling names IRL, right? I sure do. I know that Mark Calloway is the man behind the Undertaker, the Undertaker is the character/persona,  Glenn Jacobs is the man behind Kane and the mask he wears, Kane is the persona/character.  Yes, there was a large amount of time in which some people thought that the Dwayne Johnson is actually called 'The Rock' in real life,  he isn't..trust me on that one. Reviewers also have real names and the reviewer personas are characters.  So it's alright to do reviewer related fiction. Personas/characters are different than the actual person, alright?

7. Again with the deceased celebrity erasure? *shouts angrilly in John Belushi*

8.  If the actual celebrity is there it is not identity theft so the real celeb actually still exists, it's not like you go all Single White Female on them and take over their lives.  You don't gain the exact memories and personality of that celebrity.   Mel may be Mick Jagger sometimes but she's still Mel. Nathan may be Dan Aykroyd sometimes but he's still Nathan.  I did get turned into James Corden briefly in the halloween adventure with Corey and Oats but I was still me..thank goodness.

9. Look if you have a problem with celebrity fiction, fine. It's not to everyone's liking..I like it though and if you have a problem you can just look at something you do like instead, also it's not like the person who writes the story thinks that they can control the person IRL, I've never seen a celebrity fiction that objectifies the celeb in question.

And lastly...10. That was kind of, actually it was a stupid as hell rant and yeah I disagree with it and I think Thundergonian should ban posts like this it's no wonder Nathan quit that subreddit (tf-irl) before deactivating his account. They're not even remotely humorous.
