WB Rants: Nerdish.
Werebelushi:
Really? The people are only noticing the whole 'nerdy/bookish character suddenly becomes evil and/or sexy' trope now? Look, it's been a thing ever since Batman Returns...in fact they pretty much ripped off Batman Returns for the Catwoman movie, if not earlier than that...expecting that kind of movie not to have a scene like that is like expecting to see a sitcom where you don't see a pairing of an overweight/ugly husband and a sexy wife, yes...there have been sitcoms in which there isn't an ugly husband/hot wife scenario but most family sitcoms as in sitcoms featured around families including animated ones like Family Guy or The Simpsons, have had an ugly husband and a sexy wife. But you'll notice that with Batman Returns, Wonder Woman 1984 AND Batman and Robin that those examples are all female, you rarely get any male ones outside of Jim Carrey in Batman Forever or Electro from Amazing Spiderman 2 or Guy Pierce in Iron Man 3.
Yes, there is Megamind but the thing is that Megamind himself is the actual hero of the movie even though he is a supervillain, yes he is a very adorkable character with his mannerisms, misprounications and his sweet nature but for the most part he remains as who he is, yes he disguises himself as Bernard to woo over Roxanne but he doesn't change, he's still who he is on the inside regardless. Tighten is different since he's given Metro-Man's powers and trained by Megamind on how to use them, but he was supposed to be a replacement for Metro Man who Megamind thought was dead. He only went truly evil after he found out about Megamind dating Roxanne (who he had a crush on).
And also regarding Doctor Detroit, uhhh..Clifford Skridlow remains adorkable and nerdy/bookwormy when he's not in costume, it's just when he takes on a different persona when he's the doctor and when he's in costume. He doesn't change, he remains who he is and doesn't change. Also...for the record, who's to say that the dorky and/or ugly guy can't get superpowers and not be sexy at the same time without doing the trope of becoming a sex god complete with glassess removal?
Trust me, there are a lot of women out there that have a thing for not so attractive men, if that man treats them like crap. There's a name for that, it's called a Kavorka. And for the record, I would fit under that trope because i'm a portly, fur-covered jfoul-mouthed comedian whose species is made to be gross on purpose yet I have female fans who want to date me or even sleep with me.
Also..I wouldn't say Coneheads counts as 'ugly guy/hot wife' since Beldar is actually quite handsome for an alien.
