TftW: Sharing The Secret.

TftW: Sharing The Secret.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nathan always made sure that his team of paranormal researchers were able to perform tasks even if it required them to stay up all night in order to do so, but there was just one task that seemed too daunting even for the bravest members of his team. On September 4 2018 his friend Robert called up and asked for help, explaining his mother had to go to the hospital after getting a case of pneumonia, which wasn't a problem since Nathan and Robert called up the local first aid service to take them for a ride in an ambulance over to the hospital in the city, however when it was revealed that both of them had to spend the night there with her to make sure that she got a safe recovery, that's when things began to get worrisome for the two of them.
It wasn't just for one night, it was for 6 whole days and over the course of those days and nights, the two guys still were able to communicate with each-other online and keep in contact and keep everyone updating, but one of the night of the fourth day Nathan began to get even more worried for his friend, becoming increasingly nervous and frightened. He tossed and turned a little on the beds before sitting on the chair to use his computer and keep in contact, every time he closed his eyes he had these visions, visions of something horrible happening to Robert's mother and it hurt him to even go to sleep.
He normally was able to relax and go to sleep at night when he was at home because he could listen to his favourite song, but here it wasn't so easy...but at least he had the view of the night-sky to relax him and make him feel like he was back at his apartment. Robert didn't know that Nathan was supernatural despite the fact that he had been a part of the team for quite a few weeks now, that's because Nathan was careful about who he revealed the secret to.
Nathan staggered for a bit before backing away, nervously sweating as if he was being interrogated. Robert looked worried and a little bit intimidated, and always was acting like he had done something wrong. He was always the timid one, and he was often easily frightened, and even the smallest thing made him afraid.
"What's wrong? You seem a little jittery...I hope something or someone didn't hurt you."
"Oh no Rob, it's just...uh..i'm worried."
"About what? Mom's gonna be fine, right?"
"It's not that..."
"Well then...what is it?"
"I'm starting to get worried about someone close to me."
"And who might be that be?"
"Connor."
"Is he a friend of yours?"
"Yes...he is. I rescued him and adopted him as part of my Pokémon team."
"He's a Pokémon?"
"Oh yes, he is...he's a Lycanroc."
"A L-ly-ly-canroc? But aren't they dangerous and scary?"
"No, that's a stereotype. Midnight Lycanrocs are reckless sometimes but are genuinely loving and protective. Trust me, you'd love him once you get to know him. He may seem scary but he's really lovable."
"How do you know so much about Pokémon?"
"Well...I've been a trainer ever since the beginning of my journey. That and when you have been affected by a virus that turns people into Were-Pokémon, yes...those are real monsters that reside in this city, you are qualified to be a Poke-expert. And that's also basically how I know."
"Are you also a Pokémon?"
"Oh no...at least not today."
"You act like you have some kind of secret. You don't have a dark secret do you? You know, in case you do...it might be good to let it out right away, so that way I won't be confused or horrified if you reveal it later. It can't be that morbid or horrifying, right? This curse cannot be half-bad, right?"
"Very well...Rob, we've been friends for more than a few weeks and I think it's time that you knew what goes on in this city. This city is inhabited by humans AND monsters, and there are villainous monsters out there that I have to stop. Don't worry, not all of the monsters are likely to kill/maim you, attack you, brainwash you or transform you. There are good monsters out there."
"Are you a monster yourself?"
"Yes..."
"What kind of monster are you and are you a good monster?"
Nathan hesitated a little bit before giving a nervous smile, revealing his canines lengthening and sharpening to become akin to fangs. His eyes turned from brown to a piercing shade of blue as they gave off a supernatural glow, Robert had seen this type before, he remembered his half-sister having the exact same traits.
"Rob...i'm half vampire, and yes I am a good monster."
"You're not going to bite me are you?"
"Of course i'm not...as I've already said, i'm a good guy. I would never go after one of my own allies and turn them into one of the undead. Besides, the last time I did that was when I was put under that weird curse."
"Phew..."
"There is however one other secret I wish to get out of the way. You see, in addition to being half vampire, I have these powers. I can morph into other people and characters as well as into a variety of other forms, usually at will but on some occasions...well..it's complicated."
"You don't have some kind of werecreature condition or a disease that is akin to what a werecreature has, do you? You know when the victim transforms at full moon and all that? Because I don't want to end up as a victim of your carnivorous lunar activities. Please don't go all Jack Nicholson on me."
"Kind of...but i'm not exactly what you'd call your traditional kind of werecreature."
"What do you mean by that?"
"What I mean by that is that I change every single night regardless of whether or not the moon is in a particular position and when I do, I sometimes cannot control myself. I don't kill anyone or anything, and of course i'm not like those werecreatures you see around here that slaughter innocent people."
"What kind of were-creature are you?"
"Well..watch, hey...nurse!"
Nurse Ellis was instantly summoned to the room, Nathan brought her over and held her hand for a little bit as Robert watched. Ellis was about to ask him what he wanted when all of a sudden, she began to fall into a trance and more than a little bit fluttered, her heartbeat rapidly as her eyes gave off a supernatural glow.
"Yes...master."
"Rob, this is Nurse Ellis. I accidentally hypnotized Ellis with my singing voice a while back and put her under a spell and now whenever she or any other of the nurses see me, they fall into the exact same trance.  it wasn't my fault entirely,  it's just well...my hypnotic powers got a hold on her and some of the others."
"You didn't make her your thrall, did you?"
"Nah.  I've got plenty of thralls back home already."
"She isn't your bug-eating lackey?"
"Oh you mean you think that she's a Renfield?  Nah.  She isn't. Besides, I already have one of those.  And he looks and sounds like Tom Waits.  Ellis isn't like that,  she's just someone I hypnotized accidentally."
He was about to explain the rest of it when the moonlight shone out through the windows and reflected onto him.  Nathan groaned as he clutched onto his chest with his hands,  looking at his hands he could see them slowly changing in size as his arms lengthened,  his skin slowly losing all imperfections and become slightly paler than normal as his chest and torso slimmed and lengthened.   His legs lengthened a bit as he felt his aura increasing.   His feet slowly growing a bit to match his hands as his stomach became trim and more athletic.
In addition to this...he felt a supernatural energy force jolting through his body as his height slowly shot up in height from 5'7 to 5'10 as his back developed the same trimness as his stomach and his shoulders lengthened.  His hair slowly lengthening and growing to nearly shoulder length as it turned from brown to blondish,  his eyebrows arching a little bit while his eyes widened and turned from brown to bluish, his nose altering in shape as his lips became quite kissable,  his teeth brightening a bit as his mouth widened.  His teeth remained normal,  but also sharpened just a little, his canines in particular sharpened to give him what appeared to be fangs as his cheekbones sharpened and his facial features altered,  his features morphing themselves into those of someone else as his voice altered,  deepening and smoothening out as it developed an English accent.
He felt his face as it warped and altered,  watching as his physical transformation stopped with the outfit he was wearing at the time morphing into a dark purple shirt and trousers as a watch materialized on one of his hands.  He looked over at Robert as his mind shifted a few times,  as a new persona started taking over.  This new persona was one that was that of a certain legendary musician,  as his memories shifted to reflect that persona.
"N-Nathan? Buddy? Is that you in there?"
"Hmmm...I don't know if it is really,  sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't.  That in itself is a mystery even the brightest of detectives cannot solve.  One of life's many mysterious in fact,  and there are several more to follow."
"You look and sound different...you look eerie yet exotic, and your voice. I have heard that voice before.  I have heard it on the radio and on tv, and everywhere. You look and sound familiar to me.  I saw you in a movie once,  I think..something about mazes and goblins.  You remind me of that bad guy from that movie."
"Really...could you indeed say that I remind you of the babe?"
"A babe...as in a baby?"
"Why yes...and it's something that I remind you of."
"What 'babe'?"
"Uhhh...the babe with the power,  of course."
"What power?"
"The alluring power of voodoo."
"Who do?"
"I do."
"Do what?"
"Remind you of the babe."
"Wait a minute...that's from the movie.  Are you him?  The villain from that movie?"
"Yes...but rather i'm the person you played him."
"Wait a minute...your appearance, your voice...you're..."
"Yes,  I know..."
"Y-You're David Bowie?"
"Well technically yes,  I am.  During the night anyway."
"How exactly did you end up like that?"
"As far as I know it goes back to my Labyrinth obsession but the whole becoming Bowie thing happened with a series of dreams/visions I had in which it happened to me and I don't recall much apart from the fact I got some kind of weird tattoo or bitemark on my neck."
"Can you control this form?"
"A little but sometimes it's really difficult."
"How long does it usually take for you to adjust to a new form?"
"Usually more than a few days or so.  But I can train and condition myself into making it more natural and I meditate to keep things from getting too dangerous, this year is pretty much the first time i've ever had this form to be honest."
"Does it hurt?"
"Transforming into this form usually does hurt,  usually though when I gain a new form it only hurts the first times I morph and it becomes less painful as I learn how to control it.  The only drawback is that I have a hard time explaining it to my friends and have to keep it a secret from those friends who aren't Mel or any of the team members."
"What's the other drawback?"
"Breaking out into song. I can't control that either."
"What's the major drawback?"
"Well...this form has sort of a side-effect.  Basically if I bite them or use my powers on them even when i'm not like this there's always a chance of me accidentally turning them into another me."
"Is there anyone else with the same problem as you?"
"As far as I know,  i'm one of the only 'Bowies' here."
"Aaaaw..."
"I just wish I had someone who understands what i'm going through."
"I understand you.."
"You do?"
"Yes,  now that you have told me everything."
He chuckled a little as he hugged Robert,  the fact that this supernatural Bowie doppelganger who would normally be going around hypnotizing people and transforming them had a soft side despite his sinister aura. Bowie brought Robert over for a little bit before closing his computer down,  setting it aside and sitting back down on the bed to relax.
"I'm glad that you understand what i'm going through."
"No problem, that's what friends are for."
"Promise you won't tell anyone else about this?"
"I promise."
"Good,  I knew I could count on you."
And with that the two of them laid down to rest for the night, but while Robert slept for several more hours Bowie decided to peek out the window and listen to the sounds of the night,  he could hear the sounds of various nocturnal creatures and monsters, and he could particularly make out the cry of a Midnight Lycanroc.  He crooned out a few songs out of his before roaring in response to the Lycanroc's cry,  he recognized the cry...it was Connor's.
As for what happened much later on,  it was finally on the sixth day he was able to leave the hospital with Robert and also with Robert's recovering mother.  A couple of weeks later,  things slowly but surely went back to normal.  Robert was glad to have his mother back to good health and best of all...he kept the secret.
Remember,  you can always count on a friend for anything...even keeping secrets, and even keeping supernatural secrets as well.  Friends are there for each-other and that is something that will never change no matter what.  It is always good to have a friend with you by your side.
