The word nightmare is often used to describe either a truly horrifying experience or a type of horrible dream, the latter is a kind of dream you probably wouldn't want to experience...not even if you're truly daring enough. In mythology there is such a creature called a Nightmare which is depicted as a horse with a mane and tail of flames and a piercing stare, of course the mare comes from the name of an unrelated monster which is goblin-like and gives people it stands on the chest of bad dreams. And then there's the kind of nightmare in today's story.
Oakendale is a city that is occupied by monsters of all different kinds including iconic movie monsters and the fall season is when these monsters run loose. It was only a few hours halloween night and Dylan, our protagonist was walking down the street in search of a costume shop and there luckily was one that caught his eye...a place called Morgoth's Scaratorium, he approached the main entrance to that shop and gulped a little..feeling a bit intimidated by the monster models on display as the doors opened.
He walked through the doors and was astounded by what he saw...a selection of excellent movie and tv character masks and costumes along with a selection of animatronics, but what intrigued him the most was the attention to detail in all of the design work. That's when he saw what appeared to be a blue-ish colored helmet of some kind that glistened, he was about to touch it when he heard a voice speak up.
"Can I be of assistance?"
"Why uh...yeah, i'd like to buy this."
The voice belonged to the storeowner, mr Morgoth himself...a supernatural being who looked and sounded a lot like rock icon Alice Cooper even right down to the makeup he had around his eyes and the sides of his mouth. He was standing near a Jason Voorhees statue, specifically it was a statue of Jason as he looked in the sequels, and there was also a Leatherface mask on the left.
"Ah, I see you like our nightmare night mask."
"Nightmare mask?"
"Why yes...this is a one of a kind item."
"I'd like to buy it.."
"That will be 10 monster world coins please."
Dylan presented Morgoth with 10 monster world coins as Morgoth handed him the helmet and put the helmet in the bag, a couple of minutes later the former left the store and decided to put on the helmet, he stopped to take a deep breath before putting the helmet on, but the helmet floated over to him and attached itself to his head. Which began to alter him physically. These changes manifested in a tingling sensation that jolted through his body, his physique slowly began to feminize while cornflower blue hairs slowly sprouted on his body, his arms lengthening as his hands shrank and his fingernails lengthening...his fingernails turning dark blue in the process.
The hairs spread up and down on his body as his chest and torso slimmed, on the former a pair of round formations developed, becoming a pair of breasts. His stomach slimmed as his clothing slowly changed into a flowing purplish blue gown, a pair of wings slowly sprouted out of his back as his back contorted and arched. His legs lengthened and his hips flared out, the fur on his body was darkening as well. Dark supernatural energy jolted through his system as he began to chuckle evilly, a long tail that had fur of a brilliant phthalo blue color and a Persian blue outline on it slowly emerged from his rear as his hips inflated.
All of the monster costumes and masks began to give him ideas...ideas of bringing them to life and unleashing them, in addition to this he felt power influencing him as his feet slowly shifted to become half hoof-like, with armored plating on them that was a slight light blue-ish tint as an armored bra appeared underneath the top of his dress with a breast-plate that went with it, a necklace materialized around his neck - the necklace was one in the shape of a crescent moon. His hips flared out as his privates retracted as a violet aura surrounded him.
His privates retracted as a cape of sorts with the same crescent moon design as his necklace materialized around him as his neckline lengthened, his hair slowly growing outwards as it turned from its normal color to the same phthalo blue color as his new tail, his ears shifted a little to the the top of his head and became pointed, as his eyebrows thinned and turned a moderate bluish violet color. Sapphire blue eye-shadow applied itself around his eyes as his eyes widened and turned cyan with the pupils becoming slitted. His features softened and reshaped themselves as they feminized, his two canine teeth sharpening to become akin to fangs as his face slowly pushed out into a pseudo equine muzzle. His voice feminized in the process as his mind filled with thoughts of spreading evil and darkness throughout the city, his mind and memories slowly shifting with the latter making him remember he was born a female and not just any female...but a certain kind of female equine, his mind and personality becoming corrupted in the process.
He recognized his voice and appearance, in fact...he or rather she knew it all too well but likely didn't care, she not only looked like an anthro version of Nightmare Moon but she sounded like her and had her powers too and that's when she thought that with these powers, she could inflict a new reign of terror and also make this halloween a night to remember. Dylan was no more as Nightmare Moon had fully taken over, and to her that was perfect.
"Ah...perfect. Now to unleash these powers upon the city."
She cackled evilly as her horn slowly grew out and she used her powers to bring several horror character cutouts to life, turning the entire store into a place infested with monsters and iconic characters from horror. She also saw a demon horse-person sculpture and brought the sculpture to life, the sculpture sprung to life and became a demonic anthro stallion warrior to serve as her bodyguard.
In addition to this she cast a spell upon the entire city that transformed the human citizens into monsters and horror characters, as well as affecting anthro equines in the area...making them all fall under the Nightmare Night curse, turning them into monster ponies of various kinds including zomponies, were-ponies and vamponies. It wasn't long until monster ponies roamed the streets.
And with that, the start of a massive Nightmare Night invasion of monsters, horror characters and monster ponies as well as the new Nightmare Night's minions commenced and not only that but it was an invasion that spread throughout to every home in the fair city of Oakendale. As for what happened later, Nightmare Moon cackled as she saw her minions spreading their own evil powers to the city and converting others into monster ponies as well.
No one in the city was safe from her and her minions, and now...it's time for you, dear viewer/reader to remember this one thing. When you are exploring the city during the fall season, heed the warnings and be sure to heed Zecora's warning...for Nightmare Moon is on the prowl and if you're not careful, she might come after you and make you part of her evil army. Unless you'd like that, of course.
